My favourite tro-tro is the Russian tanker that used to ply the Kaneshie Circle route. It had a very sexy nickname(Kpanlogo). Known in other parlance as 'Bone Shaker'. This gigantic automobile served so many purposes during its lifespan even though some were detrimental to the passengers' health. For example the excessive amount of fumes it emitted inside the vehicle and the high decible noise level. If you went to and from work in this tro-tro on a Monday, come Tuesday and you already felt like its Saturday. I believe that's how it earned its name 'Bone Shacker'. In those days, the unemployment rate dropped thanks to the pick-pockets who took advantage of all the negatives that came with this Kpanlogo. Others who wanted to unleash their libido on certain females they lusted also found the time to express their fantasies. You see this thing called passenger lorry has the tendency of bouncing and shifting people about and that was the beauty about it. Other than those few down sides, Kpanlogo could clear a snake like or meandering passenger line in no time due to its unprecedented capacity.

Nana thank you for this piece. You have aroused the nostalgia in me this morning. I will, thank God I'm 70 plus, give your readers the origin of three of the terms in the first paragraph. 'Tokyo Joe' was the name of a haircut of the American soldiers who remained in Japan after the 2nd World War. This was imported into the Gold Coast via the American GI's. 'Shokolokobangoshe', not Shogologobangoshay was a name in a story from one of the English readers written by F.G.French for use in the colonies in pre-independenct Africa. 'Ampokyekye' is a term for somebody who will not buy, but take advantage of, and consume just anything bought by someone else. This became very popular with a song by the late Eddie Donkor in the 70's. Let's keep on educating and reminding ourselves of our wonderful terms which brought laughter into our lives. You've made my day. Will someone tell me the origin of 'Opana'?

Jumping to the wrong conclusions and false accusations are simply products of ignorance that educators especially Christians should address. When you think about it Herod tried to kill Jesus, and in so doing killed numerous infants because he thought his post was in jeopardy, and Jesus was killed because the people did not understand his purpose. How many homes and families have been destroyed based on lies and ignorance. Breaking the cycle of ignorance should be a national priority. It is simply cankerous and has destroyed many a life. But please may it not be that the blind should lead the blind.

Nice write up, to sum up I will say it is a celebration of poverty and backwardness. Have we moved from that yet? probably a few inches. Useless country! can we do better? Not when some are baying for Akan Republic at this time and age. We are doomed. The last election and what is going on at the SC gives an idea the kind of people we are. Lots of southern African Countries are doing better than us (Swaziland, et al)but we claim we had independence before them, Useless country. 53 years nothing to show other than, he is pepeni, he is ayigbe, he is not akan, full of nonsense. All we know is to pass water in the streets and defecate in gutters and we are proud to talk about Tokyo joe and other silly things that do not not push us forward as a people. Go to Lome Togo and urinate in the streets and you will know where power lies. Not in Ghana. Soon some one will write about how nice it is for Ghanaians to shit in the open and their women show their private in the streets as they pass water. Useless people.

"cleanliness is next to godliness" is not found anywhere in the Bible and personal responsibility is learned. True understanding of religion will reduce gullibility as well

I absolutely agree with you. No wonder a certain political party still enjoys political space in this country even in the of mediocrity all because of this "Ghanamanic Gullibility"

Very nice article. We are too trusting a people and I believe most of our current livelihood challenges can be attributed to this habit. Thanks Nana for drawing our attention to this. Cheers. CN

education must be made compulsory for all citizens and strictly enforced by law. Illiteracy is the cause of our woes and the politicians are enjoying that bit.
