Kofi Thompson, you are right. The proposed project should be funded by the prvate sector and not the government. For many years now government funded projects have become avenues for people to exploit and misuse those resources. If anything at all government should not put in not more than 20 percent of total cost.

Though we do not know the details of funding being requested from the government; our intent to shoot the idea down comes too early. Probably we need to ask the consultant to come out for us to know which form of investment they wanted from the government. The land on which the project would be situated for insyance would be Ghana's land and Ghana would have to assit in the acquisition of it. That can be the investment they are asking from the government. The sort of land size they need, if government did not assist, probably it may not be acquired without problem or litigation.

KPP is not looking for government funding. I believe they are only looking for a commitment for a guarantee power offtake. As you may know Thermal power systems, the governor system is not as easily maneuverable as the hydro system hence the need for an assurance of base power. please check your facts

Mr. Thompson...you could have done yourself and us a service by talking to the promoters etc to find out whether they were seeking govt support and what exact support it is they want from govt.
From my reading of the report, this is such a huge investment 2billion dollars coming from Siemens and Ferrostaal from Germany.
With such an amount, I believe the best the Consultants may need or want from govt is a show of commitment since when this project gets online, it will need to collaborate with existing power generators etc in amounts to be charged for their power etc. Your article is a bit short sighted and undermining of the good intentions.
Make a trip as a journalist to the project sites, talk to Siemens' rep in Ghana etc to get a true picture so your piece is balanced.
As it is it appears you're wearing the colour green for spectacles.
At least, I did follow-ups and even met with the promoters and the Siemens group recently at a reception at the Holiday Inn Hotel on their way out after meeting the promoters and other partners.
You can do the same and unmask any attempt to take money from govt. Great minds discuss ideas; average minds discuss events; small minds discuss people. And this is what you appear to have done here. You've attacked the persons promoting this project instead of looking at the ideas they seek to project.
