With the internet in the challenge, one would think efficiency would be a mark in the Postal system. Everything I sent to Ghana, letters, Parcels etc., about 35 in all, never reached their respective destination. Meanwhile, everything I sent to other West African countries were all received.
So, what kind of humans are we in Ghana?

Is it true that the Ghanian Association of cartographers want the soon to be implemented address system to be simplify as follows:
1. Street name and number, followed by apt number (if any for mail and parcels delivery purposes)
2. Neighborhood,
3. unique area code number, i.e 1,000 - 10,000 for the ten regions in the country. The bigger the town, the more zeros in their area code. As an example, 1,000 for Kumasi area code or 10,000 for Tamale or Accra.
4. Last, the region, and so here is an example of would be soon Ghanian address:
Mr. Emmanuel Asigri
420 Ethiopia Avenue, Apt # 9 C
10,000 Tamale, Northern Region
Ghana - West Africa.
Massa, anaa?
This is no brainer!
Twea!
All those complicated alphanumeric stuff for complex area code is antiquated!
Simplified, Simplification address system is the modern way to go for GH.

Great job but if I missed it when was anyone consulted on this? Many countries around the world have a post code of some sort but this one is a bit complicated! You are dealing with a huge number of illiterates in Ghana so your first thoughts must be with how easy it is for any 'kofi' in the streets, especially visitors, to remember where they are going without having to ask for directions.
Take a hint from Kumi's suggestion above. Let me go a step further with an example;
Give this to anyone and they instantly have a clue where they are going but give them V1VC 91MP and let's see what happens!

This is a very good idea that needs to be implemented as soon as possible. The idea of street naming and addressing system has been long over due. My only reservation with Anthony's coding system is too complicated, we need a simplified yet future oriented coding or addressing system.
When Mahama came to power he alluded to this dea of street naming to be started or completed in 6 months yet we cannot see anything happening on the ground.
All the problems facing Ghana can be reduced to a manageable bits if we have leaders who think through solutions for the country's problems not only for their selfish interest.
It is pointless to condemn any existing, addressing system, we have to benchmark Ghana's system against the simplest and the best system.

It's amazing to finally have a post code system that takes into consideration the intricacies of our society. Having read most of the comments, it nice to see the positivity of most Ghanaians about the benefits the system seeks to provide Ghana.
There are a few doubters and sceptics, but that is perfectly normal with the launch of a new product. Personally I'm intrigued about the contribution that GhCode can offer in Ghana's developmental process.
Well done Anthony for this unique system! Go GhCode, the launching is spot on as Ghana needs a workable post code system for easy identification of places and for all the aforementioned benefits!
Let's all embrace the system and celebrate a fellow countryman's hard work.

I understand, the gentleman who is designing the Ghana system studied in the UK. So he is making it to conform to the British. I will suggest, the US system which is simple and easy to remember. In the US, all neighborhoods are assigned unique zipcodes based on their states. For Ghana, we can use the regions(0 - 9) to replicate the states. For example, in Gt Accra, a neighborhood can be designated as: GA 0####. The first digit will identify the neighborhood's region. A neighborhood in Upper West region could be: UW 9#### - ie. assigning 9 to Upper West region. Any person, with even the minimum education, can understand it. Ghana in the 21st century, should really break away from its colonial past. The British sytem is antiquated.

My feeling is that this code does not make anyone immediately envisage the location. I feel the North American System is superior and make more sense. The British
System may be good for the post office but complicated for motorists when one needs direction to a particular location. I also have an idea regarding GIS but when it comes to both location recognition and postal services the North Amrican System must be a better option. Let us have a public forum to critique this project and let the public choose between the two systems British or North American.

I believe that the British system of coding will work better for Ghana. Let take Greater Accra Region for example. The region is made up of two towns, Dangme and Ga. Dangme area should be divided into 4 geographical areas eg. south east, south west, north east and north west. Each of these areas should be further be portioned 1 to 6 areas or more and the same should be done in the Ga areas (Tema-Kpone to Kasoa). Thus an address in Dangme will read as follows:
Steet: 21 Awonye Street
Town: Dodowah
District: Dangme North west 2
Region: GaDangme
Country: Ghana
Address in Tema
Street: 7 Tettey Road
Town: Tema
District: Ga south east 3
Region: GaDangme
Country: Ghana
Address in Accra
Street: 49 Noi Sawyer Road
Town: Accra-Osu
District: Ga south west 1
Region: GaDangme
Country: Ghana
( Writer take note).
