God does not generally choose a leader for us or any people. In fact, He respects are right to decide and to choose. We choose our own leader(s). If we make the right choice we enjoy the fruit of progress. If we choose a wrong leader we suffer the consequences. We (must) normally pray so that He gives us the wisdom to make the right choice after carefully analysing each candidate's manifesto, what he/she promises to do if he/she wins, and how they would impact on the nation/people.
Don't listen to anyone, whether a prophet or a politician, a pastor or an educationist who tries to tell the fallacy of God choosing a leader for us. Of course in rare occasions God may, in response to prayers, appoint a leader for a people but that would be foretold in advance and with signs to look for.
If God were to choose for us, then why do we go to vote? And why do we spend millions(?) of Cedis on camapaigns and preparation of elections?

Personally, I don't believe Ghanaian leaders are religious, if "religious" here refers to God Jesus talked about in the New Testament. This is because religiosity alludes to morality, ethics, principles of conduct and mostly, love for one another. Who could tell me we love each other in Ghana? Akufo-Addo doesn't love anyone, not even himself.
In Ghana, while we all love to be thought of as very religious, our undertakings in that direction and general church-leaning attitudes are only window-dressing to fool others and feel big. Why is the country crumbling under corruption?
Those who believe God in Ghana could be counted on the fingers.

I sincerely consider this one from Kofi as nothing but a comic relief. Otherwise the two comments he attributed to Akufo-Addo is subject to varying interpretation. For example Nana's comment that God has something in store for NPP may not have anything to do with the election petition. The statement is not time-bound and could refer to future grand designs. In all, Nana was simply giving his support what he is referred to as a message of hope.

An atheist was walking through the woods in Kakum forest, admiring all that the
"accidents" that evolution had created.
"What majestic trees! What powerful rivers! What beautiful animals!" he
said to himself.
As he was walking alongside the river he heard a rustling in the bushes
behind him. Turning to look, he saw a big lion charge towards
him.
He ran as fast as he could up the path. He looked over his shoulder
and saw the Lion was closing.
Somehow, he ran even faster, so scared that tears came to his eyes. He
looked again and the Lion was even closer.
His heart was pounding and he tried to run faster. He tripped and fell
to the ground. He rolled over to pick himself up but the Lion was right
over him, reaching for him with its left paw and raising its right paw
strike him.
At that instant the atheist cried, "Oh my God...!"
Time stopped. The Lion froze. The forest was silent.
Even the river stopped moving.
As a bright light shone upon the man, a voice came out of the sky,
"You deny my existence for all these years, teach others that I don't exist
and even credit creation to a cosmic accident. Do you expect me to help
you out of this predicament? Am I to count you as a believer?"
The atheist looked directly into the light, "It would be hypocritical to
ask to be religious after all these years, but perhaps you could make
the Lion religious?"
"Very well" said the voice.
The light went out. The river ran. The sounds of the forest resumed.
..and then the lion dropped his right paw, brought both paws together
and bowed its head and spoke: "Lord, for this food which I am about to
receive, I am truly thankful that my feces will fertilize the soil to produce grass for the elephants to eat and the waste can be used to produce Umbrellas "

MASSA KOFI, this is a well written and interesting article. Firstly, I don't think Nana Akufo-Addo sees himself as the standard-bearer of God in Ghana. It's worth reflecting on the fact that Christian spirit is deeply ingrained in our national psyche. As you've pointed out, Ghanaians are peculiarly religious. Unconsciously, we Ghanaians have created a 'Theo-political environment' in Ghana, and this allow our national leadership/political leaders to indulge in their Christian spirit by stretching religious faith a little beyond personal belief.
Yes, in politics, even Satan can quote the Scripture. However, I do believe Nana Akufo-Addo is using his Christian faith to bring the party supporters together, remain resolute in their common purpose at Supreme Court and remain motivated. Ghana isn't Theocratic but nothing prevents political leaders from expressing their faith in public.

Only one (Imoru Ayana) was for Allah besides Mahama. Therefore 2 out of seven is approximately right proportion for Ghana's population. Just tell the short-fat-ugly old-man to get lost in Ghana politics for the youths. Ghana cannot afford yet another funeral expenses in less than five years. The Supreme Court should consider age factor in their final decision for, Mills' funeral expenses are still pending. After all, Akufo understands "All die be die" better than Mahama and he can absorb the pains better than our chosen President.

The good Book says that, you asked and did not receieve because you asked in vain.Which means that you asked for your selfish interest.I can only say that, God is a loving God who forgives no matter how far we have wrong him. Not too long ago, this same God that the NPP is relying on to make Akufo Addo become president of this country, is the very God whom Tsatsu Tsikata was worshiping at the "Christ The King" catholic church, and he was hauled out during a prayer session and jailed just because of his ethnic background, but with the excuse that, he has caused finacial lost to the State.Unfortunately,Wereko Brobey,Kwame pianim and the rest are walking free men in this country. Akufo Addo and his tribal grouping the NPP, can not fool God. Infact, nobody can fool God. Becasue God knows the true heart of each individual and that is why their prayers will never be answered. God knows the black dark heart of this man,Akufo Addo and will not allow him to rule over his children.
The other day, a cow was killed in a mosque for him. If they like they can kill an elephant, God will not answer their so called prayers. God will only answer people with a clean hearts which is completely none existing among these criminals and tribal bigots.

Your assertion make sense though your article is biased and it also lacks some fundamental points.
Ghanaians' misconceptions and hence misuse of God/Allah in their everyday lives go back to the millenniums. Unfortunately, the tendency to conceive God/Allah, to invoke God/Allah, to worship God/Allah etc. the way we want to rather than the way He wants and expects of us, almost always brings negative results but we never learn from it.
Like every people or race, God/Allah expects us to utilise our faculties and other abilities to invent, to plan, to stand up against such injustices as colonisation and slave trade etc. He is our strength and our courage.
However, we expected God/Allah to come and fight for us during colonisation, slave trade and many other incidents. It did not happen because it was contrary to what He expected of us, and blacks were colonised, and some blacks were enslaved. We seem not to have learned lessons from these past mistakes; we still continue in our ignorance and misconception of Him hence receiving the same results as in times past.
