Cletus, I have read your article and totally buy into everything you have said. I just hope the authorities will take note and have the courage to make our educational system relevant for the 21st century. A few years ago, I met a Singaporean academic who told me in Singapore the nation comes before the individual. He claimed that was and is still the secret of their success. Ghana must begin to develop world class institutions to help solve many of the problems particularly facing the African continent. For instance, every year, I read about many prominent Africans going to Europe for medical care. The medical expenses are often very high, but I strongly believe if we have such world class institutions in our midst, many Africans and people from other Third World countries will be attracted to Ghana for their medical needs at a cost much cheaper compared to the amount our African governments pay to these European countries. There is no monopoly of knowledge or wisdom anywhere; its about vision. We will get there.

Cletus, I like your article. I love visiting the Ashesi website and that of Africa Leadership Institute in South Africa which is also a brainchild of a Ghanaian. My observation however is that all that you have identified in your article have already been identified by others invarious publications and on variuos platforms. What I am saying is that the challenges and solutions have been over-identified. What we need now are shakers and movers like Frimpong Boateng, Patrick Awuah, Ken Ofori-Atta and others who went to learn abroad and saw the need to come and use their learning to solve our problems thus complimenting what the Otabils etc are doing. You know Otabil never went out but he has left a legacy. So we neeed transformational leaders both at home and in the diaspora to confront our developmental challenge. This is doable with some kind of audacity. Thank you again Clement.

I mean...what can you do now about the situation other than to pitch the way you can? He is president for the time being, and until otherwise ruled by SC, it is what it is. Politics aside, some of the policies he is initiating are good. I read about him, I don't belong to a party, I just write what I think is good.

The writer is mis informed. It is the study of mathematics and physics, indeed all the physical sciences, not information technology which should be encouraged. Computer sciences and information systems are rooted in mathematics and physics and largely Ghanaians shy away from such subjects. They prefer easier subjects like marketing, sociology and theology. Japan, China and the up and coming countries produce mainly science and engineering graduates. India produces more than 10,000 Software Architects and Engineers every year and they cannot meet the needs of the Software companies like Microsoft, Intel and just about all the technology companies from the West who have gone to India. The writer further says we should change our attitudes and it is simple. Just how do you do that, by preaching to people to change their attitudes and not be corrupt. Goodness, how naive. And there is the patriotism bit, the only thing which binds all Ghanaians is football, nothing else. Raising the flag and reciting pledges will do nothing for committing to the country because we have not achieved anything to be proud of, that we can sell. Unfortunately, the culture we make such a fuss about is not saleable. All people everywhere, even ants, have a culture. All people, particularly primitive people, and I am not being unkind or disrespectful, have drums and native dancing but they cannot sell that. The Chinese, the Indians, the Europeans, the Americans etc have great pride for their countries because their countries make things and generally plough back into their countries in infrastructure, hospitals, schools etc. Just what has Ghana done to be proud about, after 56 years of independence we still cannot feed our selves, corruption is on the increase, primitive thinking is on the increase, the bogus priests and prophets have the Country in their grip. All the piticians do is rule by rhetoric, eschew this, desist from that. Rhetoric, platitudes, corruption, religion, ( and I am a Chritian ) the abundance of bogus Pastors, Bishops and Prophets is and will not get us anywhere. We even have a bogus Archbishop, who knows, before long we will have a Pope or two in Ghana.

Hehe...If we have fellow humans who are so narrow minded in their thought, caged in their belief, heaped penned up feelings against everybody, and peeved, how do we move ahead?
