I am not sure what this write up was intened to communicate. Dr. Kwadwo Afari-Gyan will have been fired in some countries if all these problems surfaced under his watch. the time for redemption has passed. He could have stood his ground all the way but he choose a path that would lead him to destruction. He will go down as a disgraced man and history will definitely not be kind to him.

Tseaa, how can a centurion-looking Afari Gyan be only 68.
We all know Ghanaians hardly disclose their true age; Afari gyan is no exception.

Hei Ghanavia, you are right about your comment but some people may look much older than their actual age and vice versa. It all rest on your lifestyle. You remind me in the mid '70's to mid 80's where I used to work with one of the Foreign Banks in Ghana and the Executive Director who used to be a Ghanaian was changing his birthdate when he was due for retirement. Eventually age caught up with him where he couldn't have any option but retire miserably. This mostly happen to people who don't plan well towards their retiring age.

One major weakness of the 1992 Constitution is that it never prescribed a fixed term for the Electoral Commissioner. This is one of the reasons why Afari Gyan became so obstinate and arrogant. He's been around for more than twenty years and so had developed some importance and arrogance commonly identified with dictators, emperors and monarchs. Recall his reaction and response to the advice of well-meaning Ghanaians that the country was not in a position to add more parliamentarians to the 230 we had before the 2012 elections. He brushed off as nonsensical all those pieces of advice. When the NPP suggested that he investigates alleged irregularities in the 2012 elections before announcing the winner, he rebuffed that they could go to court. When they took his challenge and went to court, he has started telling lies and professing to be ignorant of what happened under his watch during the elctions.
There is much to be done to restore respect and dignity to the Electoral Commission.
Firstly a constitutional amendment must make a one term of seven years for the Commissioner.
Secondly, a judge or a reputable and legally trained person should be considered for the position of Electoral Commissioner. If nothing at all, a judge will exhibit the fairness and firmness he/she is known for. And judges, like all other professionals, are also bound by code of ethics which make their conduct beyond reproach. Judging from what we have seen in the past 20 years or so, Afari Gyan was a bad choice, except that Jerry Rawlings wanted someone who perhaps would be very much sympathetic to the NDC party.
Our constitution unfortunately gives so much power to the president and therein lies the danger that the President's choice of the next Electoral Commission may be influenced by political consideration. If that happens, we'll be back to square one.

Afari Gyan should be given an honor. He has done better for Ghana than Mugo Yaro (Aka All Die Be Die).
The petitioners have not prove any wrongdoing by Afari Gyan.

The democracy we are practicing is not hinged on the one individual so your comparison with just one individual to conclude he has done well is myopic. maybe with some broad vision you will learn something.

It's the people of Ghana whose great love for country and for peace, stability, and democracy who deserve the credit for 5 back to back peaceful elections . Thanks also to our naivety, gullibility and docility that kept us nodding like lizards. We caught the eyes of the world. Unfortunately successful elections spanning a period of 20 years have been wrongly credited to Dr. Afari Gyan.We won't allow Afari Gyan to steal again what rightly belongs to us.

Judging by their refusal to accept defeat and their patapa, I will refuse to turn up in court. Addison would have lost his law cert. and de-barred and NPP doomed forever. to rebrand they would call themselves KAAP =Kwasefour Ashanti Ayem Party

Based on reliable information from insiders who wish to remain anonymous, we have always suspected, election upon election, that preplanned election frauds have been going on at least since 1992, with the knowledge and possibly, connivance of Dr Afari-Gyan. The BVM only aided in exposing his otherwise unsuspecting insidious disrespect for Ghanaians and their right to genuinely choose their leader.
We respect Dr Afari-Gyan as an elderly man.
Ghanaians thank Dr. Afari-Gyan for heading the EC for the past 20 years and "overseeing" elections, but it would be disgraceful, humiliating and backward-thinking for Ghanaians to thank him for the fraudulent elections; knowing or having reasons to believe that he has over the years overlooked, acquiesced to or participated in the intermittent election fraud; a serious perversion of justice against Ghanains.
We challenge anybody who doubts this to another level: Ghana should introduced lie-detecting machine (even if only for this purpose) and pose this question to Dr Afari-Gyan and we would be vindicated. We were sad to hear Dr Nkrumah say that election rigging in Ghana is like gonorrhea...we have to live by it. We refuse that. Ghanaians can cure it and improve upon it. Let us put put partisan politics aside, let us come out boldly and objectively to confront the so called gonorrhea so that it becomes history.
If Ghana's judicial system can allow Afari-Gyan to enter a plea bargain - and if he is ready to do that for the sake of a better Ghana - he could expose many things that could help us improve the electoral system.
