At the height of a political corruption trial, the prosecuting attorney attacked a witness.
"Isn't it true," he bellowed, "that you accepted five thousand dollars to compromise this case?"
The witness stared out the window, as though he hadn't hear the question.
"Isn't it true that you accepted five thousand dollars to compromise this case?" the lawyer repeated loudly.
The witness still did not respond.
Finally, the judge leaned over and said, "Sir, please answer the question."
"Oh," the startled witness said, "I thought he was talking to you.

The perception of corruption within the judiciary is real. Perhaps if there would be any remedial steps to correct this cancerous perception then the lawyer who aided and abetted the payment of a bribe of GHC500 should be made to pay for his crime. No one is above the law.Unfortunately, there is also the perception that you can commit any crime in Ghana and get away with it if only you're properly connected. We may not be innately interested in the annihilation of our democracy and nationhood but the choices we make everyday speak for itself. The erosion of the public trust and confidence in our judicial system is proceeding at an alarming rate and this article could hot have come at a more opportune moment. The judiciary should take immediate steps to salvage their sunken image. Failure to do this will set our fledgling democracy on the downward spiral but more importantly we also risk getting on the slippery south bound highway of no return.
