Seriously, I am a bit befuddled by the excessive antagonism expressed by Mr. Allotey over a dynamic effort to celebrate the Ga-Adangme people of Ghana. Ga-Adangmes are a subtle, warm and tolerant people. It is for this very reason that we as Ghanaians have enjoyed immense solidarity amongst a very diversified cultural and ethnic configuration, compared to other African countries, and I don't foresee this bond being broken, despite some of the atrocious utterances by political and hegemonic groups.
We as Ga-Adangmes do not need to join the food fight over superiority of our tribal and primitive past.
Let us enjoy this day and actually invite our Hausa, Ewe, Ashanti, Nzema, Dagomba, Brong, Kwahu, Akwapim and other ethnic groups to join us in the celebration. Ghana is for all Ghanaians, and even our neighbors across our borders, what we need to do rather are to solicit for financial power amongst ourselves to develop and empower Ga-Adangmes along the coast of Ghana. This is how we can sustain respect of our dignity, language and culture, else we will be ridiculed, even by people we may consider lesser than us.
I wish you a successful conference, but for heaven’s sakes, be circumspect and think beyond the box for the good of the Ga-Adangme youth, but not for our unfounded selfish past pride. I cast aspersions at other groups who from time to time attempt to draw the same antagonistic lines as a Ghanaian cultural and ethnic group. Think again Mr. Allotey, quite frankly there is not a single dignified, polished and glorious Ghanaian ethnic group past or present that has any chest pumping rights. What we need is humility and solidarity to develop our respective cultural and ethnic groups for the good of our nation, but rather we're all competing for the most primitive, most poor, most ridiculous, most uncouth, most confused and most unsophisticated group of people in Ghana today. Stop it!, and I urge others who have been practicing this same sort of abject ignorance to heed my advice.
Thanks, and have a great day!!!

I am at the finishing stage of editing a blockbuster piece which will put paid, hopefully, to all the chest thumping by some about the atrocious past of their slave raiding and owning ancestors they are proud and boastful about! Gas have not been spared either, since they were a major protagonist and beneficiary of that unwholesome past too.
I am an Ewe, or as the linguist say nowadays, a Gbe. As Henry himself acknowledged, we've been mixing with each other for centuries now, having lived together and migrated from Nigeria. So the Ga-Adangme "migrants" (hmm! fugitives, to be honest) are not found only in Agotime (correct sp.)in Eweland. They are found everywhere from Agotime down to Tongu and Anlo to Aflao and across the border in Togo, where a large group settled first at Glidzi before spreading all over southern Togo and becoming a dominant polity. You can go to Youtube and see how Homowo is celebrated in Togo. 3 of the Anlo clans alone are devoted to such people, and the Les from Legon! So, if a sister were amenable, a nephew would have been the rightful and appropriate chief of Ningo at the moment, after centuries of only having an acting leader. Not even the prospects of having a nephew and family members in charge of all those lands they started selling on the cheap some years back enticed us to convince our sister to allow the son to be made the chief of Ningo! We've enough problems as it were in Anloga already and so don't want to add "owo sa mi nya loo" wahala to it!:-) But with a plot of land going for 100,000 old Ghana cedis then, I've always been wondering if it were bad judgement I didn't acquire that 10 plots, counterpoised against the fact that we were even forced to sell our last sizeable piece of land in Anloga, as the siege of the encroachers was just too much. So, if we couldn't keep even our land in Anloga and the plots my father acquired in Accra in the 1940s and '50s, how possible is it that I can keep the intended mango plantation and countryside retreat in Ningo, with E.T. Mensah on the prowl? Ha! ha! ha! I would've wasted my money (1m cedis) then, so I've been consoling myself, when I though of the killing I'd have made re-selling those plots now! And Henry would be leading the land guards agaisnt another "Ayigbe" selling Ga-Akpa lands! Phew!
Meanwhile, adherents of the priestless Gborgbla at Gbugbla would be journeying to Anloga to consult the cousin Nyigbla to advance their socio-econ. and other spiritual problems! Hmm! What does Henry really know?
Ghana is simply witnessing another irreversible demographic change, this time not due to slave raid wars, but economic exigencies. That this is impacting negatively in many ways on many Gas, the less privileged, is beyond question. But Gas shouldn't lose sight of the fact that they are the greatest beneficiaries of those changes too. Problem is that too many Gas have been unable to take advt of those benefits and be ushered into the modern economy. Gas are just as traditional, agrarian, fishing and pre-industrial society as the rest of us, despite the Accra-Tema enclave becoming a huge pop. centre within the last 100 years. But a refugee camp of 1,000,000 people does not a city make!
I've given a lot of though to these devts and came out with some solutions. Returning the land to some chiefs is not the way fwd. How many subjects have benefitted from the land sales from chiefs? I shall re-post some of what I had written as a contribution to this debate.
