If we continue to accept and elect leaders like the AFRC/PNDC/NDC regimes led by Rawlings and team of mediocre thinking nuts and Mills/Mahama type who are corrupt-minded and on't care mentality, then why should we expect the worse. Ben said it right in hia article "As the president spoke of African renaissance at the 50th anniversary of the O/AU in South Africa, his people back home were without good drinking water, no electricity, no decent public places of convenience, open sewage gutters, and are still wallowing in filthy surroundings and abject poverty. Is that Ghanaian renaissance?"
Mahama has not solved nor is going tolve any problem in Ghana, as his leadership is rather worsening and destroying the little gains Ghana has chalked. He is more concerned with huge projects (White Elephants) he may not finish in his term of office so that he can continue with and pepetuate his fradulent acts.
It is very ironic that a !leader! who lacks accountability and integrity (Ghanaians are still waiting on his declaration of assets) is proposing accountability to others. Shame on this shameless, corrupt and fradulent person turned "leader". No wonder every as of the poltical economy is crumbling under him.

OUR SO CALLED RESPONSIBLE GOVTS ARE JUST SITTING THERE LIKE FAGGOTS WITH THEIR HANDS BETWEEN THEIR LEGS. EXPECTING THINGS TO TAKE CARE OF ITSELF. FUCKING DAY DREAMERS...

I had always thought our democracy was the liberal and egalitarian type where the whole body of all eligible citizens remain the sovereign power but political power is exercised indirectly through elected representatives.Equality and freedom were designed to be very important characteristics of this democracy. Unfortunately the government has always been dominated by an unholy mix of kleptocrats, hegemonists, mobs, tyrants, dictators and perverts whose sole purpose is to grab power and wealth. They cannot and will not govern and they hate accountability with a passion. Our democracy has therefore become the government Of Some People, By Some People and For Some People.

I believe what we need is a balanced and fair assessment of Ghana's performance as a democracy and as a nation in developmental transition.
First of all your definition (and in my view, understanding) of democracy is not only wrong, it gives a completely wrong impression of what our government should be doing for its people. Whatever happened to "think what you can do for your country and not what your country can do for you"? Have those words run hollow now just because you think it is the government's responsibility to provide for its people?
I also take serious issue with your assessment of governance in Ghana. Perhaps you would care to give us a proper definition of governance, and to tell us by what yard stick you are measuring Ghana's performance. If you compare our national performance on a number of developmental indicators vis-a-vis other nations in Africa and beyond, Ghana is doing relatively well.
Are we happy with where we are now? of course not. With all the coups, political inteferences (both internal and external) and the desire for people such as yourself to think only in terms of what we can get from the system rather than what WE CAN contribute to the system, we surely have a way to go.
First we should start by educating ourselves and our folks. Whilst we are at it, we should learn to recognise our strengths and our achievements and put them alongside what we feel is wrong with our system.
I regard it wholly unpatriotic, dishonest and quite frankly ignorant of anyone to describe Ghana's performance in the terms that you have tried to portray here. Sure, you may live in Japan and think you can compare Japan as a nation to Ghana. Japan was not colonised and indeed had colonies in a wide chunk of Asia including parts of China and Russia (until World War II when these external controls were wrestled away from it).
If you want, undertake a proper analysis of countries and governance and examine like for like i.e. countries which have emerged from colonialism over the past 60 or 70 years.
Finally, may I remind you that for us to develop and reach our goals as a nation, we need all hands on deck, including yours and rather than preaching negative messages, you should be a vanguard for positive change and educating our people about ways in which we can make our nation grow "great and strong, bold to defend forever the course of freedom and of right".

We are currently begging the Chinese for a $3 billion loan. This amount is something we can easily raise just from our two ports of Tema and Takoradi if we had watertight prudent revenue management system in place. Import and Excise duties we collect from these ports alone is enough to generate this amount but because of corruption and the fact that we have failed as a nation to confront corruption and punish same severely, millions upon millions of dollars of revenue that should have gone into state coffers to build infrastructure, and put in place social intervention and poverty reduction programs and help develop the country find their way into private pockets day in and day out. This practice is unhealthy, unproductive and it poses real danger to our survival as a nation.
