Kwesi, if you call yourself a journalist, does that mean you earn like 80% of your income from the practice of journalism? That's about the best definition of a journalist. It is not enough to go to Journalism school to call yourself a journalist. It is not like medicine. You do not need to go to a journalism school to earn 75% of your income from the practice of journalism. In the olden days, journalism was a trade that you learned by a period of apprenticeship, not of schooling.
Oh, Karikari (Ka-kari) taught me too. He wasn't a professor by then. Even the late PAVA too was not a professor then. That means it was several years before you, Kwesi, also went to that school too. But I don't call myself a journalist. My income comes from other sources. So I am not a journalist. But you are a journalist, Kwesi.
And I don't listen to Ghanaian radios or watch TV online. I just can't stand it. I want to put wax into my ears if I hear my fellow Ghanaians speaking English on radio or tv. It's the same type of English I speak and I don't even want to hear myself speak. That's what happens to you when you live in a place where everybody speaks the language as a native speaker. Then you don't want to hear others speaking (murdering) it other ways. That's why you don't even want to hear yourself speak!!! So I avoid the online audio news from Ghana. I can read the news but I cannot listen to it. When I am in Ghana, it's a different thing. I am like all of them and speak like all of them and that feels somehow ok.
But it will be nice if you write for ghanaweb, it should be a typical ghanaweb type of article - short, simplistic, stupid, badly argued, nothing esoteric, (definitely not that) and sensational. Your present kind of ruminations won't do here. Will be better if you find another forum for such kind of stuff.
Good luck, Kwesi who is a journalist and lives in Orleans (not New Orleans - don't make that mistake), Ottawa, Canada.
