The case was dismissed on technical grounds, not because it lacked evidentiary merit but because there was some matter with the affidavits. After all, no evidence was given or heard so how can it be declared of no merit? To be sure, Kpegah will find it difficult to prove his case but that was not why the court dismissed the case. Let us learn to address things properly.

Kpegah says he will appeal. Akufo-Addo can wait to countersue after the appeal has been heard and dismissed. Then it will be Akufo's turn to show that the failed Kpegah suit has really damaged his reputation. It may not be enough for him to only prove that Kpegah "attempted" to damage his reputation. He is not likely to get much damages from such a pursuit.

The political ramifications are more far reaching than the purely legal/technical issues. Akufo-Addo will not come out unscathed in this issue. His die-hard supporters like Okoampa will rejoice that the man "won" the case but his political opponents don't see that he has won anything. Those who don't like the man will continue disliking him for the same reasons that they have always not liked him and will not vote for him. Worst of all, those who believe the rumours that there's something fishy about his legal credentials will continue believing so since they have not been given any evidence that such is not the case. Akufo is not likely to win any new converts but he is not going to lose his old supporters either. It's pretty much a back to square one thing for him politically. And this case is important because of the politics surrounding it.

As for Kpegah, it's stupid of him to have brought charges that he will find difficult to make stick irrespective of the actual truth value of the charges. But he's not going to lose anything for the probable reason that he really has nothing of value to lose. The shame may devolve on his children (and on Ewes for the tribalists) but they (the children) can be excused. Why should the "sins" of the father be visited upon the children who, rumours have it, tried to persuade their father from his suit?
