The IMF said the wage bill rose by 47 percent in 2012, with many of the factors explaining the increase not yet quantified. In addition, deferred wage payments from the Single Spine salary reform were twice the level included in the supplementary budget. “A ballooning wage bill, if untamed, will bring debt to levels that could endanger Government’s transformation agenda,” said Christina Daseking, leader of a mission from the IMF that was in the country between April 2nd and 12th.
The implementation of the Single Spine Salary Policy led to a steep increase in the public wage bill, with Government spending 68 percent of tax revenue on public wages alone last year. After targetting wage expenditure of GH¢5.6billion in 2012, Government ended up spending GH¢8.5billion.

John Mahama wants to rule Ghana at all cost. First he used fraudulent means to win election to come to power. Then he tripled the salaries of the security establishments such as the Army, Police etc. to consolidate his grip of power. This guy thinks he is very smart. One thing I want to tell him is that he should be aware that God is watching all his 'smart' moves. Deception, dishonesty, lies, thievery and all similar unscrupulous ways of life have dire consequences which no one can escape in the long run. Humans beings have a lot of limitations which tricksters like John Mahama probably don't realize. No one can tell for sure what will happen tomorrow no matter how smart we think we are---only God knows. Humans do not have full knowledge of all things---only God knows everything. Above all we are mortal beings--that is we have no control over our lives--we can die at anytime. Of course we can also get some sickness/illness which we have no control. Why am I saying all these? I am saying these to highlight the fact that 'smartness',deception and trickery do not pay in the long run before God. The justice of God grinds slowly but it grinds exceedingly fine!

IN 2008 WHEN PRESIDENT MILLS WON THE ELECTIONS AKUFFO ADDO AND NPP WERE BUSY TRYING TO FIND HOW THEY CAN CAUSE MAYHEM BY EVEN GOING TO BRING DEAD BODIES FROM MORGUES TO CREATE THE IMPRESSION OF LYNCHED BODIES IN PARTS OF THE COUNTRY WHEN IT WAS OBVIOUS THAT IN SPITE OF MASSIVE DOCTORING OF VOTING FIGURES THEY STILL LOST AND TAIN WAS GOING TO BE A FINAL HUMILIATION. I RECALL ATTA AKYEA AND CO GOING TO COURT ON SUNDAY TO PREVENT TAIN. FINALLY THEY WERE IMPRESSED UPON TO LET COMMON SENSE PREVAIL. AND THEN WHAT DO WE SEE, FORM DAY ONE PRESIDENT MILLS WAS THEIR TARGET OF INSULTS, INSINUATIONS ETC. WHEN HE WAS GIVEN SEVERAL PLATFORMS TO TELL WHY WE SHOULD ELECT HIM, HE ONLY GO THERE TO ATTACK OPPONENTS INSTEAD OF SAYING ANY SENSIBLE THING. NO WONDER GHANAIANS DECIDED RIGHTLY THAT HE WAS NOT TO BE TRUSTED WITH POSITION OF AUTHORITY. There was a story of a trader who found his colleague suddenly doing very well financially. So he got spies to spy on his friend. The spies came back to tell him that his friend had been selling brooms in Tamale, because they saw him in a truck covered with brooms, and driving up north.
Upon hearing that, the srtuggling trader decided to buy truck loads of brooms to sell in Tamale. On his first trip, he managed to sell three brooms! That couldn't even pay for the cost of petrol. What the spies didn't know was what the other trader carried underneath the brooms.
Rationale of the story? Copying blindly without sense could be very dangerous.
