My own wife, and a sister in law would not attend my enstoolement as a chief because the chieftancy institution, with its libation etc. was of the devil, and they were "Born Again".
Our "Born Again" pastors don't mind blasting 200 megawatt speakers in a 20'x 20' room in a residential area in spite of a festival's noise ban, because Billy Graham uses loud speakers in his services, and our festivals (homowo, bakatue, akombo, etc.) are for the devil. I saw a "pastor" preaching in English to a village congregation of 6 elderly illiterate women. When I asked him why, he replied they would only consider him a man of god if he spoke in English.
And yes, our thieving politicians, lavishly displaying around us their ill gotten western goods, do not help either; they make us want to copy them.

Massa just check the university rankings for Africa and you will be shocked to see where our universities are let alone world rankings. I am sorry but our universities are failing us lately. Look at the type of leaders in charge of Gov. of Ghana today. 99% have local degrees but have they done any meaningfully things for Ghana lately? 98% of MPs have local degrees. A good example is Ablakwa and co. Tell me what have they done for Ghana? Not to mention the cabinet. Can you compare Mahama’s degree to Obama’s Harvard degree? The only saving grace is that those who normally do well in Ghana are those with hybrid local/foreign degrees and some work experience abroad or in the corporate world.
Some high schools in other parts of the world are even better run than our universities so stop the anti-Ghanaian foreign degree holder attitude the anti-diaspora returnee mentality and rather ask your elected leaders do more and better. Like they say, Travel and See.

If you got a degree from the diaspora then think again. The article never said that. But who manned our local universities? returnees from Abroad. Why could they not replicate that excellence?

...and a typical type: This Author. He is worried about his people learning western culture, he is worried about his people acquiring degrees in English language, he confines all his arguments to his ethnicity and tribe. Asante made Sandals (false), Some gentleman could not read or write Twi, many of us took French in secondary school, we cannot speak it or write. Students study math, history and science and fail their exams. What is the big deal about not being able to write or read Twi, although you may have been born a native in one of those Twi speaking regions. There are English men and American men who cannot read nor write English (and I mean white people). You are too into yourself about this false cultural phenomenon like we really have sophisticated learning tools. Each time some freak comes out with arguments about Ghanaian Culture and Language, it is always an Akan, trying to show off what they don't have. Keep it up, once a month for over 5 years I read such articles, and to think Ghana can get any worse?
