But what we see here is his following the same age old prejudices we all have about each other.
One huge Ewe prejudice about Asantes is that they (the Asantes) love and adore money. They will do anything to get money - including even killing their own kith and kin. And when they make money, they must boast about it. Akadu's views only confirm to Ewes this prejudice - it doesn't remove it!
Ewes, on the other hand, are mainly taught not to boast about money or wealth and to rank other things higher than wealth. This may also be a prejudice but one effect is that, this going on about wealth and somebody not building a house doesn't quite wash on the typical Ewe who may well shrug his shoulders and say: It's only an Asante who thinks that a man's wealth is in the material goods he possesses.
Another of Akadu's oft-repeated prejudices about Ewes is that they (the Ewes) have "low self esteem". But the typical Ewe is taught not to boast about anything. To work hard but not to boast about their achievements, no matter what these are. "In all things you do, be humble" - I can hear the typical Ewe parents telling their children as they go forth in the world. This aspect of Ewe upbringing is likely to be miss-interpreted by others as lack of self esteem, even by people who should know better. This theme is also linked to my first theme above.
When Akadu, by extension of his argument, accuses a whole ethnic group of tribal supremacy, there is a certain contradiction in this. A people who are supposed to have low self-esteem, cannot, at the same time, think of themselves as the tribal superiors of other people!
Now, these are just a few of the age-old prejudices we all have about each other. The thing is that, TIMES HAVE CHANGED! The age old prejudices and the underlying practices they reflect have also changed and are still changing. Ewes used to say Asantes don't like going to school because they want quick and easy money. THEY CANNOT SAY THAT ANYMORE!!! It is not true. And now, Ewes, too, like money like anybody. And they like travelling around the world in search of that money even if they are not talking about it. SO THEY CANNOT SAY IT IS ONLY ASANTES WHO LOVE MONEY!!!
The old prejudices are breaking down. Most Ewes who travel outside Ghana have Asantes they meet at the factories, shops, cleaning company headquarters, university departments, etc. as their closest Ghanaian friends. They are all faced with the same difficulties, hopes, anxieties and expectations.
Despite the breaking down of the old prejudices, there is still tribalism in our country brought about by self-seeking individual politicians (from all tribes) and the perennial struggle for the limited resources of the country.
I think what the educated people on this forum (especially those sporting PhDs in the Social Sciences) should do is to try to illuminate some of these problems and give them more understanding and suggest ways by which we can overcome them. What they should not be doing is to join the chorus and continue hitting on the same age-old tribal prejudices. The only thing they achieve is to deepen the divisions among us.

How does the government justify giving MP'S, especially those from Greater Accra region housing allowance of GHc50,000? Where were these people living before they became MP's?
Where in the world is it mandated that the all MP's should live in the Capital where Parliament house is? You and I live in USA, those Senators and House of Representative members if they want to live in Washington have to find and pay for their own accomodations. Some of the MP's in Ghana even those not from Greater Accra Region have been living in Accra and only go to their constituencies during the election time so why should they qualify or the housing bonus?
