Any talk of stopping government's sponsorship of party supporters is commendable, and must start with the chief Imam himself and those around him. Ghanaians want proper religious chief Imams and not a political chief Imams like that old man who does not represent any Muslim in Ghana except himself those around him. Where did he get the money to sponsor children in Schools? The Present chief Imam is one of our problems as Muslims in Ghana.

I read this article with shock and surprise because of an obvious untrue peddle about me in the article.I have never deny government involvement in the sponsorship of hajj operation.Indeed,I made the point that any attempt by government to stop any assistant to the operation of hajj mean no Muslim in Ghana can perform hajj because Saudi deal with government not individuals.I sighted issues of subsidy because the introduction of the hajj village and the utilities was not considered in the package charge on pilgrims.Government paid for them.Indeed, flying those from the three northern region to Accra was sponsored by government and just to mention a few. Please,Alhaji Jawando check ur facts and stop misrepresenting people for Allah's sake.

Its a fallacy to state that Saudi government deals with government and not individuals. Alhaji Halidu will do himself a good service if he takes some time to read the procedure from the Ministry of Hajj website. Most governments around the world do not meddle in Hajj issue. The ministry of hajj deals with AGENTS and not governments. In USA, Europe and other African countries, the government does not get involve in any Hajj program. I can give you a couple of Ghanaian Hajj agents in USA and Europe who have never met any USA government officials but deal directly with the ministry of Hajj,Saudi Arabia. Ghana can also do it without government's intervention, if we clear all those corrupt agents. Some of us do not get paid to peddle lies as you politicians do. We bring out the truth, when it has to do with my religion. Remember, on judgement day you can not give Almighty Allah the excuse that "i lied for political reasons". A lie is a lie. Some of us have outgrown dirty politics, but will speak out when it comes to our religion. If your party keeps good records, you will find my name on the list of attendees at every saturday morning meetings at Goosie Tanoh;s former residence opposite the Ghana Immigration Service head office. The first hausa speaker at rallies organized by your party in my constituency. But the fear of hell fire was paramount to some of us.

It is time to stop sponsoring any group to any religious pilgrimage .Use the money to feed our hospitals or pay our debts.

All I know is that if a muslim leader in ghana had said what the Rev said, the negative response would have been more than this.
Politicians will do whatever to win elections,if we do not keep our guard, not even God will save us.God saves those who keep their Guard.

No matter the hypocritical position taken by the writer, the point is Muslims paid for their pilgrimage. Mantey was not talking about the sponsorship of party members but Muslims in general, that was where he erred. How many times have you come out to defend the injustices meted out to Muslims in our society?
Have ever question the benefits the churches get from government and the public including the use of classrooms as churches.
Given your argument is right, do you think that any of said amount would have gone to develop our communities.
Could you please give me any scholarship program that benefits the Muslim communities. What percentage of national budget is targeted at the socio-economic and educational needs of Muslims. Is Islamic studies an examinable subject in our school?.
I don't want to say anything about the Christians, but Mantey's statement seem to show his disdain for Muslims and disregard for the peace we are enjoying in Ghana due to inter-religious tolerance we have in Ghana. He must leave Islamic Issues for Muslims to deal with, he is not a government policy maker. It seems you have a personal agenda to blackmail some people but take a second look at Rev. Rev. Mantey's statement Holistically and it will not take you long to see the mischievousness nature of the it. Your Holier than thou approach, to me, is nothing short of hypocritical and there was no need for you to impugn on other peoples integrity.

Your points are well taken. The moderator's statement had a bit of an overreach. Your assertion about classroom for churches and scholarships targeting muslims miss the mark. If Muslims requested public facilities for services when not in use and are refused, that could be stated as discriminatory. I do not believe the Govt. sponsors scholarships that particulary benefits non muslims. Individuals and private organizations do those things. I know a lot of bright muslims who have benefited from them. Not trying to start any controversy, could you name some govt. scholarships or benefits that exclude non muslims?
A GOOD PIECE.
