Most great writers, including Nobel Prize winners, are Professors. But when we talk of them in terms of their literary work, we don't often address them as Prof. Their creative work often surpasses anything they may be as Professors which should be reserved strictly for the academic. Achebe was, indeed, a Prof but for most literary people, he is Chinua Achebe, just like you will say Seamus Heaney, Toni Morisson, J. M. Coetzee, Derek Walcott, etc. even though they are all also Professors.

I know you meant this criticism in a good way, and it all speaks to the greatness of this great Son of Africa. You guys give me great hope that literature in the present generation is not dead after all. I was opining some time ago that reading of African literature is not something endearing to the present generation. I hope that the death of this great literary icon will cause a strong wave of interest in literature in general and African literature in particular among the young people of Africa. I will take time to deliver my own eulogy to the glory of Chinua Achebe. I watched his interview with a young Nigerian woman last week after the announcement of his departure, and it has made me reflect on my own achivements in life. I do not know if I have harnessed enough and put to great use Achebe's literary influence on me. Chinua, you will always be in our hearts and minds. May you rest in perfect peace!!!!!
