The FOI is a very powerful weapon indeed, Used wisely, it'd greatly enhance our nation building effort. The legislature has dilly dallied on its passing into law because of squabbling over what the final draft should look like. Obviously the parliamentarians would prefer a watered down version of the bill. We don't need a blunt weapon that has been rendered ineffective from the word go by its framers.
It was refreshing to hear President Mahama urging the Ghana parliament on behalf of the millions of voiceless ghanaians whose interests would be better served to pass into law the FOI bill. The talking unfortunately has gone on for 10 long years with nothing to show for the time wasted. The talking time and the theatrics is over and now is the time for action. After Rawlings we don't need any more heroes, attention seekers and empty talkers. If we, the people don't put pressure on the parliamentarians they will continue to waste time or will hurriedly pass a watered down version that'd serve no useful purpose.

This is the information age, the age of enlightenment. Nothing should ne hidden from the sight of taxpayers whose sweat and blood and tears keep the machinery of government running. Pass the bill now.
