In the 13th century, the Inns of Court originated as hostels and schools for student lawyers. The Middle Temple is the western part of "The Temple", the headquarters of the Knights Templar until they were dissolved in 1312; the awe-inspiring Temple Church still stands as a "peculiar" (extra-diocesan) church of the Inner and Middle Temples. There has never been an "Outer Temple", apart from a Victorian-era office block of that name: an order of 1337 mentions the "lane through the middle of the Court of the Temple", used by chancery justices and clerks on their way to Westminster, which became known as Middle Temple Lane and probably gave its name to the Inn.[1]
The Inns stopped being responsible for legal education in 1852, although they continue to provide training in areas such as advocacy and ethics for students, pupil barristers and newly-qualified barristers. Most of the Inn is occupied by barristers' offices, known as "chambers". One of the Middle Temple's main functions now is to provide education and support for new members to the profession. This is done through advocacy training, the provision of scholarships (over £1 million in 2011), subsidised accommodation both in the Temple and in Clapham,[2] and by providing events where junior members may meet their more senior colleagues for help and advice

Daniel, I am still finding it difficult to digest retired Justice Kpegah's suit against Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo Addo. It still makes no difference to me whether you predicted this coming in 2008 or not. What is the objective and what is he really aiming to achieve?
Is he claiming that because Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo Addo is no longer referred to as Mr William Addo Dankwa Akufo Addo, the name he bore when he was called to the Bar, he has committed the crime of impersonation or is he seeking to prove that the two names cannot be the same person but two and separate individuals?
I am one of the critics of Ghanaian political leaders including Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo Addo, the late Mills and now President Mahama but I still think that retired Justice is simply playing mischief. I would be surprised if this case is not dismissed and treated with contempt that it deserves. Thereafter, I hope Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo Addo can counter sue the retired Justice for libel and defamation.
I am disappointed that a retired Justice of the Supreme Court would behave this way. It's distasteful and cuts a big slur on his integrity. Is he so bored that he is trying to engage his brains in some complex but good for nothing legal case or just an attention seeker? This is far below what is expected of a retired Judge, let alone a retired Justice of the Supreme Court.
I know I questioned Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo Addo's Oxford University record and went ahead to find out the truth by contact Oxford University but I really do not think this case is worth pursuing. It's complete waste of time and vexatious, in my view.

whatever your view is on this matter, by the end of the day this will help to enhance the democratic credentials if i may repeat the cliche. The question to Akuffo is simple did you qualify as a lawyer and by which process? Unfortunately Sam Okudjeto was unhelpful but rather muddled the water since we know for a fact that Akuffo did not practice in France contrally to what okudjeto wants us to believe. We also Know that there is a difference between obtaining your LPC or BVC certificates and a training or pupillage contract that will qualify you in England and Wales to practice law.You may be a member of an inn without qualifying as a practitioner that is a Solicitor or a Barrister. So from the records we know that he did not qualify to practice in UK as well so what about Ghana.I suspect because of his privilege background he was fastracked and given exemption in to the Ghana bar.If it is so then it will be embarrassing and may be asked to go through the normal process again. The rest will be taken over the other institutions.

WAS NANA ADDO DANQUAH AKUFFO ADDO CALLED TO THE BAR AS WILLIAM ADDO DANKWA AKUFFO ADDO? IS THAT WHAT KOFI ATA KNOWS OR BELIEVES OR HAS PROOF OF? THAT THE REGISTRATION NUMBER 1190 OR SO IS FOR THE PERSON WILLIAM ADDO DANKWA AND THAT THAT WILLIAM ADDO DANKWA IS NANA AKUFFO ADDO? AND HE WAS CALLED TO THE BAR WHEN AND FROM WHAT LAW SCHOOL? THESE ARE THE QUESTIONS!! HOW COULD SUCH A REQUEST MADE BY JUSTICE KPEGAH CAST DOUBT ON HIS INTEGRITY ...IF IT COMES TO WORRYING ABOUT INTEGRITY THEN IT IS NANA THAT YOU SHOULD BE WORRIED ABOUT. There are too many gaps in Akuffo Addo's CV. After completing Legon in Economics, which other school did he attend?
Interestingly, he states Lansing college (a high school) on his CV. But there is no indication of any postgraduate work.
His CV states he was called to the Bar in England, worked with a law firm in France, and called to the bar in Ghana.
But his CV does not state anywhere where he studied law. This matter will not go away--it has to be addresseed.
Akuffo Addo is a public figure--so he has to clear the air.

READ ABOUT HIS EDUCATIONAL BACKGROUND
NANA AKUFFO ADDO'S VEDUCATIONAL BACKGROUND
He had his primary education at the Government Boys School and later Rowe Road School (now Kinbu) both in Accra Central. Nana went on to England's Holmewood House Prep School before attending Lancing College, Sussex, to study for his O- Level and A- Level examinations. He returned to Ghana in 1964 to read Economics at the University of Ghana, Legon, Accra. After graduating as an Economist, he went on to read Law in the UK and was called to the English Bar (Middle Temple) in July 1971.
Political Background
TOP LAWYER
Nana is an accomplished lawyer. He was called to the English Bar in 1971 and the Ghanaian Bar in 1975. He worked as Associate Counsel with top international law firm Coudert Freres in Paris- France from 1971-75, moving to Ghana to become a junior member of the chambers of U.V Campbell from 1975-1979. In 1979, he co-founded the law firm, Akufo-Addo, Prempeh & Co, which has become one of the most successful law firms in Ghana.

Application to Middle Temple is a straight forward process. The Application Form must be completed, signed, and returned to the Treasury Office.
Once admitted to the Inn, you can request to be allocated a practising member of the Inn as a sponsor, who can assist and advise you in practical matters such as applying for pupillage.
Please make sure that you fully complete all the forms, remembering to sign and date them. A General Guide for Students has been written to give a better idea of how the Inn works and this will be sent to you on admission.
To download the application form, click HERE.

Onimdeefo, it appears that if anyone needs mental purgative is you. Mr. Pryce has not shown any bias in his analysis which I enjoyed. Needless to say anything more, this is the second time issues of academic integrity comes up about Nana. In the recent, past, the Oxford saga was about Nana.
I do agree with Justice Kpegah to raise the qualification problem. Being a public notary does not require a law degree. being a lawyer also does not requires law degree but a certificate of legal practice.
The question about Mr. Pryce qualification is irrelevant as he is not running for President or public office.
If Nana is qualified as he claimed, he should answer with evidence. He is not answerable to God but to the people he wants to lead.
Thank you.

Joining the Inn
Students may apply for admission to one of the Inns of Court from the second year of their Law Degree onwards, but must be admitted before they can be registered on and attend a Bar Professional Training Course (BPTC). Applications for admission must to be submitted by the end of the May immediately preceding the start of BPTC.

The mathematical analysis is as follows: Nana had a third class in Economics at the University of Ghana.
No credible institution or law school that we are familiar with will admit you without a second class or above so his clever Dad probably pulled a few strings for his son.
How can this Tiwii man come from Lansing School, England, where he had refined education in elocution, etc, where he sat his GCE O Levels + A Levels and get a third class? That is quite strange. I conclude that Nana oo Nana was not studying, rather smoking and chasing girls, I bet my bottom dollar on that. He was a rebel. He did not follow his father's party at that time. Check it out.
So the answer is this: Tiwii plus ganga or weed is equal to Nana William Edward Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo. He is the only person I know who is called Addo twice!! He was not very clever at Legon, so it would have had to take some arm twisting to get him into any law school anny where in the world. Middle Temple is not a law school, please. Maybe he did a correspondence course, like John Major. Let us dig deeper into this rogue who has been surrounded by notorious akyem gangsters parading themselves as his henchmen, spewing insults at every given opportunity. Ewurade ahu mo to!!!
This is the most hilarious piece of information that has re-surfaced and will continue to haunt Nana Addo until the day he passes into glory. Nana we are waiting for your candid response. The whole Ghana is waiting. The whole world is waiting, thanks to the internet. Achakanapaya!!!

Mr. Price, please stop making unnecessary academic arguments. Before I continue, Nana Akufo Addo does not need to defend himself against flimsy and foolish accusations. He has accumulated enough experience and fame in his chosen profession to respond to irresponsible accusations like the Rawlingses did in 2008.
If you want to know, until 1971 or 73, one could do articleship with an experienced lawyer even here in America and be enrolled in the law profession. Britain had the same thing. If you have heard of the Inns of Court, that is what they did: train lawyers to become barristers. In Ghana there was the QCL which was a three year course at the law school after a first degree. One qualified to be a lawyer with a BL which is the professional qualification just like in Britain.
Knowing Justice Kpegah, it is obvious he had ulterior motives. I would not allude to politics but I would not rule it out. But clearly, the former judge does not deserve any defense. Since he was passed over by the Kufuor administration for the position of chief justice, Kpegah has behaved rather strangely. His utterances have not helped the perceptions developed about him.
It is sad that someone like him was a justice of the highest court of the land: he is a disgrace to the law profession and the bench.

I followed the career of retired Supreme Court Judge Justice Kpegah. Both the bench and the judiciary agree he was very well-versed in the the law but brooded no nonsense from any quarter. If he thought and knew he was right by the law, public opinion didn't matter to him and he wouldn't lick boots for any thing. He could've easily become the Chief Justice but for politics. If such a person has decided to sue no less a person than Akuffo-Addo, it must not be treated with contempt.
This alleged bending of the rules for the likes of Akuffo-Addo has been making the rounds for the longest time--and Akuffo-Addo knows it. It is about time the courts decided and laid it to rest.

Whilst I am in no way holding brief for Nana you have to understand that unlike in Ghana where you have Markola where we train lawyers (Law school) in the UK lawyers are trained in the Temples (the equivallent of a law school in Ghana). You need a first degree in any discipline and a good reference. Others train and get qualified via the experience route, that is even without formal qualifications. That is why some of you are getting confused. These days you need a good first degree followed by a postgraduate diploma in law and then you apply to the temple to be trained. Things were different in the 1970's. It is up to Nana to prove his critics wrong that he indeed trained and qualified in England. The issue becomes more complex when the name W.E.Akufo Addo comes in the equation. Is it the same person or Justice Kpegah is confused between W.A Akufo and W.E. Akufo? I am sure he will come out unscathed.

HEY! MY FELLOW GHANAIANS, THE ISSUE IS WHETHER NANA IS A QUALIFIED LAWYER IN GHANA OR NOT ? HE MAY BE GOOD IN THE CHOSEN FIELD OF LAW BUT WAS NOT ENLISTED IN A PROPER WAY, IT'S JUST A SIMPLE MATHEMATICS TO DEFEND HIMSELF PERIOD. THIS ISNOT A ROCKET SCIENCE.NANA SHOULD KNOW BETTER AS HE IS FIGHTING A BIG LEGAL CASE IN THE SC THAT SHOWS THE HE WANT TO ENTRENCH OUR LEGAL SYSTEM AND THAT MATTER BUILDING OUR BROKEN JUDICIAL SYSTEM. FOR THE FACT THAT SOMEONE HAS TAKEN YOU TO COURT DOES NOT MEANT THE PLAINTIFF HAS WON TTHE CASE.!!
GHANAIANS I THINK WE GOT BIG PROBLEM ABOUT ISSUES LIKE THIS YET WE CRIED ALL ALONG FOR RULE OF LAW THE PRACTICE OF DEMOCRACY IS NOT A CHEAP THING.
LOOK,SIMILAR CASE HAPPEN TO ONE SCHOOL MASTER I KNOW IN GHANA WHO ACCORDING TO SOURCES COULDN'T PASED HIS O'LEVEL MATHS AND MANAGED TO FAKED HIS SNR BROTHERS PASSED RESULTS IN O'LEVEL MATHS TO ATTACHED IT TO HIS OTHER RESULTS AND GOT ADMISSION INTO TEACHER TRAING COLLEGE,PROCEEDED TO WENNIBA ADV T T NOW FULL UNIVERSITY.THIS MAN WAS ONE OF THE BEST CLASS SUBJECT TEACHERS IN THE SECONDARY HE TEACHES AT THAT TIME.
UNFORTUNATE FOR HIM THERE WAS A POLICE RECRUITMENT IN CID OFFICERS POSITION AND THE CANDIDATE LOOKING FOR WAS PRECISELY ONE WITH TEACHING BACKGROUND .THIS MASTER FORGETTING HIMSELF OF HIS PAST DEALS WENT IN FOR ENLISTMENT FOR THIS JUCY POSITION. LUCKY FOR HIM HE WAS SELECTED FOR FINAL INTERVIEW.ALL BENEFITS ATTACHED TO TO HIS NEWLY POSITION WERE SPELL TO HIM (EXCLUDING USUAL POLICE BRIBES)
UPON FURTHER INVESTIGATING HIS ACADEMIC BACKGROUND THAT IT CAME TO LIGHT OF HIS FAKED ATTACHED CERTIFICATE DURING THE OLEVEL TIME FROM WAEC OFFICE.
THIS MAN NEARLY COMMIT SUICIDE FOR THIS EXPOSÉ.
YET ,THIS MASTER IF IT COME TO CLASSROOM SUBJECT TEACHING HE IS ONE OF THE BEST.BUT BECOUSE HE COVERED UP AND FINALLY THE LAW GRIP HIM.
WHO KNOWS, NANA MIGHT BE BEST IN HIS CHOOSEN FIELD OF THE LEGAL PROFESSION AS NO ONE CAN DOUBT HIM FOR THAT BUT WE ARE TALKING ABOUT PROFESSIONAL INTEGRITY.
IF INDEED NANA HAVE IT HE NEEDS TO COME PUBLIC AND DEFEND HIMSELF. THE CURRENT VICE PRESIDENT LEGON CERTIFICATE WAS CHALLENGE AND HE WENT FOR IT TO CLEAR THE AIR AND NOW NO ONE CAN TALK ABOUT IT ANYMORE.
GHANAIAN SHOULD KNOW NANA HAS LIED ONCE BEFORE.
. HE HAS LIED OF BEEN A PAST GRADUATE OF OXFORD ONLY LATER TO BE DEFEND BY ONE HIS COMMUNICATORS THAT HE WAS FORCED TO COME TO GHANA BY HIS LATE FATHER TO COME AND LEARN TWI AND FOR THAT MATTER THEIR FAMILY TRADITIONAL & CULTURES AS A ROYAL MEMBER OF THEIR FAMILY STOOL. THAT SOUND RADICLUS BUT WE TOOK AS IT SOUND SWEET.AFTER ALL IS A MATTER OF CHOICE. EITHER TO STUDY AT KUKURANTUMI UNIVERSITY OR OXFORD . ANYWAY I WISHED I WAS THE ONE TO MAKE SUCH A CHOICE THAT WILL BE GREAT BECOUSE I HAD MY CHOICE EITHER TO BE A COCOA FARMER OR BEING ON MY OWN. LUCKY YOU NANA.
PLEASE PLEASE NANA , FOR GOD SAKE ,YOU ARE ABOVE THIS,DONT ALLOW THIS TO TARNISH YOUR HARD WON IMAGE. PLEASE COME AND CLEAR YOURSELVES AND FOR WE THE LOVERS OF YOU CAN PROPERLY FIGHT FOR YOUR COURSE IN GOOD SPIRIT.
AGAIN I THINK THIS WILL GO A LONG WAY GIVE A TRUE MEANING TO YOUR FREE EDUCATION AND HELP GET STOP TO PEOPLE FAKING PEOPLE CERTIFICATES TO GET JOB, ENTERING UNIVERSITIES , COLLEGES, AS WE ARE SEEING TODAY IN OUR PUBLIC UNIVERSITIES AND PUBLIC INSTITUTIONS FOR WHOM YOU KNOW ECONOMY OF GHANA .
WE WANT FREE EDUCATION WITH GOOD MERIT RESULTS NOT BY PASS THE TRUE WAY.

Are you really saddened Kpegah filed this frivolous claim against Nana? If you are, don't be because it is Kpegah who has become the butt of jokes in the Ghanaian legal circles. You see, the modus operandi of Political hacks like Kpegah is to spread disinformation to the gullible masses to gain power. Why would Konadu doubt Nana's license to practice law in Ghana when Nana, as a young lawyer, defended Jerry Rawlings when he was arrested in 1979? If you are not a political hack, you should have raised this simple question in your 2008 article when Konadu attempted to spread this disinformation. You rather gave credence to Konadu's mischief by stating that the GBA President's confirmation of Nana being licensed to practice law was inadequate.
You are doing the same thing to Kpegah's frivolous suit on this subject. Are you not aware that you don't need to file a lawsuit to verify if a person is licensed to practice law in any jurisdiction? In the US all you do is call the Bar association and you will be told. I believe a simple letter to the GBA will yield the same information. If Kpegah also actually believes that Nana is practicing without a license, the right procedure is to file a bar complaint with the disciplinary committee of the GBA for a determination. Pryce, you are a political hack like Kpegah so keep fanning the flame. You don't fool anybody

Although I am heading out now and won't be available to respond to comments until tonight, I wanted to respond to yours, at least. I hold you in high regard, which is why your deliberate overuse of the word "Trokosi" to paint all Ewes as a bunch of evil people is very worrying.
Well, regarding this article, I am actually doing Nana a favor by suggesting to him to take the fight to his enemies, instead of taking a passive stance like he did in the past. All Nana needs to do is to debunk the accusation publicly by addressing the specific contents of the lawsuit, and then this matter will never come up again. I have always written positively about Nana, so my readers know that I am not one of the man's detractors.

The man is in perpetual pain over Rawlings, yet still he cant do shit about it. He can cry all he wants and nothing is gonna change.
Dont waste time responding to him. His own NPP folks regard him as a nuisance and a mental case. This man was supposedly beaten by his Naija girlfriend, was supposedly descriminated against by his school, was chased out of Gh by Rawlings, hates his wife, hates all those he disagrees with including his kids.

Kpegah's people were strong UP members who were allies of Danquah whom they voted for.
The man is full of such surprises and we can just wait to see if it comes to something or just fizzle out. If he sent the case to court then he must prove that he knows something about Akufo-Addo that others don't know. Can he?

Impersonating...
In 1973 I decided not to be a theist anymore. Thus I dropped the theist name and took the name my aunts gave me the day I was born. My preliminary and intermediate Telecommunication Technician Certificates bare my Christian name, however my B Telecommunication Certificate bare my African name.
When I decided to enter the University I swan an affidavit to confirm my African name and went to read linguistics.
Since I sworn and affidavit to be known by my current name and that all my other documents with the Christian name still stand, then I am not impersonating.
I am well aware that before 1965 or thereabout Ghanaians who studied law in various universities in Europe and America were not allowed to practice law in Ghana, with the exclusion being that they have not attended the Ghana School of Law, and have no knowledge of traditional Ghanaian law. However the absurdity in the court is that we practice British law.
A lawyer once told me that many a time law and logic are not bed fellow, which they are supposed to be or is even a must. There was an intention those days to prevent those who studied law in the then Socialist countries from practicing law in Ghana and people like Sam Okudzeto or Sam Ekudzeto the real name and how it should sound is well aware. In the same vain, doctors trained in Ghana and England plotted, connived and conspired that their colleagues who studied in the socialist country must seat an examination and serve house man ship after graduation before they are admitted into their profession. It is a fact that the universities in Eastern Europe were accredited by the same ones our Ghanaian western trained lawyers and doctors attended. Thus in the Ghanaian perspective, science and logic are not bed fellows, which they are.
Thus while doctors allow themselves to be subjected to experiment, lawyers decided that they can not be thought in the class by people with first degree, when thy had second degrees and even hold Phd. in law.
Thus according to lawyers and doctors in Ghana a person who have not attended the Ghana School of Law or written examination set for him by the Ghana Medical and Dental Council can not practice law or medicine in Ghana.
However there have been several instances that the Ghana Medical and Dental Council give accreditation to people because they claim that they attended some medical school in the west. A few years later it turns out that such a person is a freak.
I had my own experience in 1985 when an accommodation that was supposed to be given to me was given to a medical officer because his services were needed more than that of a political scientist and a social engineer, because I was trained in the East.
A month latter it was published in the "Daily Graphic" newspaper that the medical officer was a freak.
Unfortunately this is the absurdity of our intellectuals who deprive people of their human endeavour because they are not trained in the countries they had their education.
It is said that when you trow a ball at a wall it will bounce back to you.

(1) Under what name/s did the 2008/2012 Presidential Candidate of the NPP registered with at the Electoral Commission? Is it William Addp Dankwah Akufo Addo, Nana Addo Dankwah Akufo Addo or both? (Nana William Addo Dankwah Akufo Addo. (2) Proof of change of name/s if any? (3) The argument as to why Justice Kpegah had not raised this issue earlier as being suggested by some is baseless because Justice Kpegah could also prove at the time he had no or sufficient evidence. After all , so far as Nana Akufo Addo is capable of running to the courts when it suits him, Justice Kpegah also has the right as a citizen to go to court. And if he,Nana Akufo Addo has nothing to hide then the best place is to defend himself in as well instead of through the media or public opinion. (4) When Rawlings's Ghanaian citizenship was challenged prior to the 1992 general elections it was the late Joe Reindorf who defended him at the court and proved to Ghanaians how stupid, petty and primitive we do our politics. (5) Nana Akufo Addo lived and studied in a Western country; UK. He should have known better that Nana Addo Dankwah Akufo Addp and William Addo Dankwah Akufo Add are (2) two different names and (2)two different individuals. For example Martin Luther King is not the same as Martin Luther King Jnr. The former was the late civil rights leader and the latter, the son. Unless Nana Akufo Addo can prove that indeed he used to be William Addo Dankwah Akufo Addo, the argument again that Ghanaians already knew him to be so holds no water. What if let's say Nana Akufo Addo and his cousin by name William Addo Dankwah Akufo Addo studied law but Nana Akufo Addo failed his law exam even though he was the brightest student. His William however passed . Instead of pursing a carreer in the law profession he branched into business. Nana Akufo Addo desperate to make it into law at all costs approached his cousin to into a gentlemans agreement and the rest will be history.

This could be a simple case to dismiss in the Court of Public Opinion before appearing at the court of legal Opinion, if only the so-called Lawyers and Defenders of Nana Addo will tackle the issues instead of involve in lip service and political propaganda. How?
Justice Kpegah main claim in impersonation, which means he believes a certain WAD AKUFFO ADDO is a qualified lawyer in Ghana but not NAD AKUFFO ADDO.
All his Lawyers and defendants must do is to organise a press conference (which they are best at doing) and show case his certificate of change of name. Simple? Case yaa mutu.
They do not have to go around the same ponit for 3 continuous without tackling the evidence. This evidence cannot again be a secret only to be produced in court as you are considering the election petition case. Yabre ene mo secret evidence.
I propose the following documents to be sent to court as evidence. Ooohh, it will be a short list not up to 11,000 sheets.
- Birth certificate
- Baptismal Certificate
- Passport as WAD Akuffo
- Passport as NAD Akuffo
- High School Certificate
- University Of Ghana Certificate
- Certifcate of Membership of the British Bar
- Certificate of Membership of the Ghana Bar
- Certificate of change of name
- Evidence of publication of name change.
With these documents, case yaa mutu
Ah but why is it that he is well known in all circles as Nana and I have never heared anyone call him Willie?
Anyway, case yaa mutu
