First, your rejoinder failed to remind us about what you're reacting to. Second, you committed the biggest and most unprofessional mistake with this statement from your so-called prof, 'According to Prof. Ayers, our kids require us most of all to love them for who [sic] they are, not to spend our whole time trying to correct them'. If teachers will not spend all their time correcting the wrongs of their pupils, what's their business of being teachers? The worse crime a teacher can commit is to willingly allow pupils to continue making mistakes of any kinds. Notice that educational objectives at where you live now are different from those in Ghana and therefore how to achieve them differs. Discipline and punishment are completely different acts.If you're not a teacher, go and check at the ethics of teaching and never use a single incident to validate a whole situation. I placed the word 'sic' after 'who' because it should have been 'whom'. Prepositions such as for take pronouns in objective case. Thanks!

What type of message are you, ungrateful Ghanaian trying to portray to your 'captive audience' (who as a bird of the same feathers), derives pleasure in Nigerians bashing?
Are you telling that Ghanaian teachers do not discipline their students? Or is the only Nigerian teachers who are barbaric and guilty of discipline 'unruly and disrespecting' students like you?
I thought you MORONIC Ghanaian lives in a so-called civilized society, but the mentalities of 'uncivilized' son of cocoa farmers, kokoase koraseni, will always distinguished the type of persons you are.
In fact, the likes of you have given credence to the words: 'You can take a child from the village, but you cannot take the village mentality from him.'
Please if you cannot appreciation the contributions of Nigerians who contributes positively to the Ghanaians society in all walks of lives, (including your so-called teacher Mr. U.U. Akpade), please leave them out of your incessant Nigerians bashing on ghanaweb.com, or else you will have me to contend with. Need I say more?

I am sure you hold a phd because your teachers used the cane to disciple you. Note that most African children cannot do things on their own

Anyone who had anything to do with the L.A Middle "A" school, Twifo Praso in the early 1970s bears a living witness in my case. There was this Form 2 teacher Mr. Fadipe who said he hailed from Abeuokuta in a country not bordering Ghana. He knew not more than delivering manly lashes via the cane to tiny and almost boneless kids that we were. With his face made grotesque and the eyes roving he would bellowed thus I WILL PUNISH YOU SEVERELY !! Red-hot urine passed the thigh and legs of many a pupil with his presence alone. At the end of school year party, this self-same man was awarded a title that implied that he was the most valuable useful teacher...HE INSTILLED COMMON SENSE INTO BOGUS HEADS!!
By jove, am ready to teach any stupid teacher who will think like him and treat any of my four children such. I will be ready to charged for court and even hanged for farther or moder!

Frank, I bet you are who you are now because the fear of being caned helped you to study hard. As much as i do not and will never connive child abuse, I would not call a teacher holding a cane and threatening to whip anybody who misbehaves as a child abuser! Many countries still have the 'death sentence' in their statute books, but we would not call such countries as barbarians. My father always had a cane in the house, but for all my childish and foolish ways, throughout my childhood years my father caned me just once when I had not heeded his instructions to stay at home to cover his cocoa beans before the rains started. And for the ten years that I went through elementary school, I was stretched once and caned once on the back and a couple of times on my arms. Because I could not stand the humiliation, let alone the pains, of being caned, I always made sure I did not do anything that would result in corporal punishment. The teachers who wielded the canes were not so cruel as to lash out on me for doing nothing wrong.
I may have been lucky to have been tutored by reasonable teachers all those years, but I believe all teachers were the same - reasonable. Please do not give a dog a bad name so as to hang it. Punishment is corrective but not a cruel act. It is good to be able to talk to our children to get them to co-operate and behave well. But once a while, if it becomes necessary to use the cane, there is nothing wrong with such. Otherwise, we surely would leave behind a worse generation than our fathers left for us.
