More than 90% of the gold earning came from Obuasi in Ashanti region and at least 25% of the cocoa earning came from Ashanti region. C
Coupled with the above, Ghanaians abroad remits 4 billion dollars yearly to Ghana's economy and with more than 40% of Ghanaians in diaspora being Ashantis, you have to realise Ashantis contribute close to 40% of all foreign earned money to the economy.

There is gold and other mineral resources in other parts of Ghana including the north which has either not yet been discovered or discovered but not yet mined. There is therefore nothing special about what you are saying. Moreover, northerners have over the years contributed to mining and growing of cocoa just that it is suitable for the climatic conditions of the south which again is not the making of Ashantis. What is more important is therefore the contribution made by all. Just think over what you have just said about 40% of Ghanaians abroad being Ashantis. What do they want there? It is the same with the northerners in Ashanti region. This is simple reasoning and I expect you to be reasonable.

A so called gold in the North not discovered doesn't add anything to the value of our GDP.
Even the Ewes were demanding special favors when the oil which turned out to be raw sewage was discovered in Volta region but I have not heard Asantes demanding anything soecifically for Asantes despite their contribution to Ghana, that is the point. Northerners have their free education and SADA because they believe they have been discriminated against and you don't think there is anything wrong with it. This country will not prosper if we continue to demand special favors for who we are and that is why Asantes have not demanded anything special.
I don't think most tries will allow a University or or a stadium in their region to be named after somebody who is not from that region but we have Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology in Kumasi likewise Baba Yara Sports stadium. Ironically,we are somehow the most hatered, mainly because of the pride for our rich culture which I think every body must and should do, the gold,rich farm-lands which the almighty God blessed us with,our pride as a people and our never giving-up attitude in case of working very hard to achieve a better life for our children's, children.
Against this background however, sometimes we tend to over do certain things especially when it comes to our attitudes. If I may ask? Does this then make us a bad people or tribe? I do not think so because attitudes can change.

I was a witness to a statement by a gentleman who said openly that Ghana is cursed because a northerner has become a president. I have always been saying that until Ashantis change their attitude towards other tribes, there will always be problems in this country.Ashantis should also stop playing war drums that if Akuffo Addo is not declared president by the supreme court there shall be war, by their position in Ghana where they are surrounded by the tribes they insult and look down on, any war in Ghana will see them (Ashantis) suffering the most. I support the action taken by the leadership of the National Youth Leadership. That is a rigt and responsible call. That careless and insensitive question from a minister of State to the Asante regional minister designate would have cost him his job anywhere in the civilised world. In Ghana you can say and do anything and get away with everything depending on your high profile connections.Much as I have great admiration for the leadership of the NYLF for their stance against the hate mongering minister for Trade and Industry Haruna Idrissu, I'd like to see the youth from other regions of Ghana take active interest in matters of this nature and take a unified stance for this is the only way we can root out tribalism, bigotry, ethnocentricism, racism, prejudice,xenophobia, homophobia, etc. which only divide us and impede our stability, growth and development. If all the youth regardless of their tribe and political party affiliation would take a united stand against Mr Haruna Iddrissu he will be quickly withdrawn by the President or forced to resign his position. Had ghanaians, especially the youth from every region protested against the state council membership and chairmanship of Mr Kofi Awoonor for his anti akan remarks made earlier in his book he would have been shown the exit from the council of state and we'd have rid ourselves of another hate monger from public life. The tone for mutual respect, decorum and civility in public discourses would have been set from that day for future public office holders.
