From my schooling in Ghana, I was taught to say carnal knowledge because carnal means body and has to do with bodily pleasures and appetites as opposed to spiritual pursuits. Sexual acts are very corporeal or bodily activities and so we term them carnal, not canal which refers to a tube or a channel or duct.
Carnal knowledge implies an intimate knowledge of each other's bodies (carnal) and has nothing to do with canals. The term is beloved of lawyers.
I am suspecting that if you live in the US, you'll say canal, rather than carnal, knowlede. Am I right? Somebody, please, help clarify the situation for me...

I know that most of our brothers and sisters like Mr Tawiah and Nana Oye Lithur think of themselves as being "educated" and "enlightened" because they have been schooled to think and see issues and events from the Eurocentric or Whiteman's perspective. May be they even think anything that goes on in the so called "civilised" nations has to be right and therefore must be whole heartedly adopted by other peoples who are foreign to Western European cultures and social norms. Whereas everyone is entitled to his or her opinion I take issue with the likes of Mr. Tawiah and Oye Lithur on this homosexuality debate because they seem to think if there are some people in Ghana or Africa in general with homosexual instincts then we have to be make that lifestyle legal. They seem to think that if we don't make accomodations for homosexual lifetyles then we voilating the human rights of of those who practice that lifestyle.
In the USA and most of the European nations it is against the law for anyone to practice polygamy. People who are engage in polygamy are usually arrested and prosecuted and in most cases they are sent to jail. One would have thought that Europeans and Americans who claim that their socities are built on Judea-christian principles will not have any problems with polygamy because almost all of the biblical prophets practised polygamy and there is nowhere in the Bible that the practice has been forbidden. One would have thought that being that these socities claim to be built on Judea-Christain priciples they would outlaw homosexuality because that practice has been forbidden in the bible, but no they have gone contrary to God's will and promoted or leagalized homosexuality.
Ghanaians and Africans have the right to forbid the practice of homosexuality just as the Europeans and American have forbidden polygamy. To each society their own. Polygamy is a social arrangement or contract between three or more consenting adults, so if those engage in it are happy with it why should the government arrest and punish them? The only answer to that is because whereas that practice is harmless European and American societies are against it because of their own beliefs and principles. In the same vein Ghanaians and Africans should be free and rightly so to reject homosexuality because it is against our beliefs and principles. I hope Mr. Tawiah and Oye Lithur can appreciate these facts and stop trying to make the rest of the Ghanaian society feel as if we are intellectually lacking or hateful of homosexuals.

Listen Folks...why do we copy so blindly or think everything accepted in the so called western world should be accepted in our country...you should check the consequences and negative impact these so called practices are affecting them...even animals do not practice that yet we have become so educated and blinded that we consider people who desire to uphold godly standard as backward....why don't they impose their ideologies on the Arab countries..I am proud to be African and appreciate our elders for shaping and passing on such rich culture and values to us...I do agree some need to be modified but when it comes to issues like this i bet to differ. we refuse to sell our souls and those of our children in the name of foriegn aids. If you knew anything about recent scientific discoveries on the human animal, you'll have decency and zip up. No one is asking you to sell your soul on anything. You are being asked you leave gay people alone and not persecute them. The Arabs are backward and obscurantists all by themselves without the west forcing gayness on them. It also explains why everywhere such attitudes prevail, the people are socially and economically backward. Look at the southern united states, russia and the middle east. Homosexuality is repugnant to me and I know I'm not alone. There are millions more like me around the world. Homosexuality is also a phenomenom that is grossly condemned but also grossly misunderstood and I'm very slow to judge anyone who claims to be homosexual because my knowledge about the subject of homosexuality is very thin. In the US an unusual child was born to normal and healthy parents. The child had a penis but everything about the child suggested "he" was a girl. "He" could not play soccer with neither the girls because the girls claimed he was a boy nor with the boys because the boys said he was a girl. After encountering numerous problems at school about his gender the parents decided to have doctors perform a procedure that would remove his penis and replace it with a vagina . After a successful procedure he's making a fresh start in life hoping to win the approval and acceptance of his peers. Many kids in the US and elsewhere have committed suicide because of their sexual orientation. My point is that we do not know enough about the gay phenomenom to make judgements about it. It's my humble opinion that some are born gay while some others for one reason or the other choose to adopt the gay lifestyle. Whilst opinions may vary and our knowledge of the concept very shallow and scanty we must be slow to judge the homosexuals among us.If we think it's unnatural are we ready to see this moral degeneracy as a failure of organized religion and society as a whole? As a christian I'd like to suggest that christians should take the counsel of Jesus not to judge because I know for sure there are far too many perverts and hypocrites in our churches. If we think the homosexuals are wrong why don't we show them some christian love and compassion,love our neighbors(including) gays as ourselves, forgive one another our sins and trespasses against each other in order for God to forgive us also,be patient and tolerant with gays whilst we await their repentance.All have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God so why are we so unforgiving and very quick to judge others? We should leave judgement to God whose judgements are perfect.
As for the president he is not the pastor-in-chief nor our bishop or pope. In as much as gays have the constitutional right as citizens and exercise the right to vote in choosing the president,they have the same rights as every citizen and should not be discriminated against. The president whilse swearing the oath of office promises to defend the rights of all ghanaians and that includes gays and lesbians, etc. If many are changing from being straight to homosexuality as their sexual preference then we should intensify the teaching of gospel principles in the churches for many have become hearers only but not doers of the word. Maybe the churches are corrupt and immoral and the pastors, bishops, evangelists, apostles, prophets, etc, as shepherds have led the flock astray because of their bad examples. They must repent and stop blaming homosexuals . There are too many hypocrites in Ghana. They should first remove the beam in their eyes before they can see more clearly to remove the mote in their neighbor's eyes. The entire ghanaian society needs rebirth and they should stop picking on the LGBT society. The rights of the LGBT society is a human rights issue and human rights activists should defend it with all their hearts, might, and soul.
