Did you think Ghanaians have any personality? Look at the way that we are being fooled and overwhelmed by notoriously fake Pastors. They fool and cheat us with gross impunity and no minister is able to challenge the decay in our religion and the abuse that fake Pastors are ruining on people. Religion is one of our institutions which constitute the totality of how we raise children. Therefore we do not as a people have to sit unconcerned by copying what western nations do. There has got to be a change and you expect the government to have a grip. For instance, use the Council of Churches for God’s sake and remove fake pastors/churches for a change.

Secondly, if some of them get licences then they are not illegal miners although they still subject to the laws and good practice standards. Third, Ghanaian illegal activity cannot be ignored, especially when there appears to be synergy or an unwholesome alliance between them and foreigners! Third I am perplexed at the apparent impotence of local political, traditional and non-state actors in dealing with the challenge! I have stated in the last post that instead of concentrating on the big mining companies, regulators should effectively map out areas of small scale alluvial mining so that their harmful activities could be minimized.
If we are to have a proper discourse on illegal mining then we need to deconstruct the problem being only Chinese. I wonder if the piece is based on empirical evidence, lest we give a dog a bad name and hang it.

If we don't do something about our immigration issue, we would all wake up one morning from sleep and see our selfs as slaves to another country or group of people. So please let us tackle this issue this year.
Let us issue identification cards to all Ghanian citizen quickly and take it from there. Don't let us depend on the voters cards, this should be a special card with numbers, some thing like the social security cards and numbers only for Ghanians and Ghnaian borns. If Togo has the card and tail, why can't Ghana do likewise?

I have a couple of comments; one is that there needs to be more of a focus on the issue of poor/corrupt planning and environmental controls and how Ghana is selling itself to foreigners who do not care, rather than on Chinese migration itself. I say that any legitimate, benevolent Chinese person should have the same right to come to Ghana as any other foreigner. Illegal miners of all colours and creeds have the same potential to destroy our land; this is because Ghana and Ghanaians do not take looking after their environment seriously, unless it pertains directly to their own livelihood. When would you see an Asanteman go up North to protest mining, or a Northerner come down to the Volta region to protest deforestation? Never, we only care what happens on our doorstep, not what happens in our nation as a whole. This is why our environment is being destroyed, bit by bit- because we do not operate with one big voice, but with tiny, personally disgruntled voices. I know this to be my sin too. Also, the government needs to manage this; personally I do not think the government cares too much as many of them are corrupt when it comes to kickbacks and bribes. However they need to care; on the most cynical level an ugly Ghana with poisonous water does not attract tourists, long term 'ex-patriates' (aka broni migrants) or travelers.
Also please, does this series need to become racist? 'The Chinese have an eye for gold', trust me- every person on this planet has an eye for gold. The difference is that the Chinese have quite a hardcore, brutal work ethic- and because of their political culture do not concern themselves with human rights - their own or other peoples, simply because they are not encouraged from a young age by the state to think this way (also being a nation of single children does not help, single children are less likely to learn key social skills that help them to sympathize and negotiate).
Either way let us not blame the Chinese, let us blame our own way of thinking, at the top and the bottom and address it properly. How can we build a protective wall around Ghana when officials, businessmen and landowners are happy to sell the bricks to it to the highest bidder? If you truly care about Ghana being destroyed, email the president at contact@presidency.gov.gh , and encourage your friends and family to do the same. Let us see if he listens.

It is rather unfortunate that those who feel that the issue is based on racism. Many people have said that you cannot do any such thing in China - this is very true. The concerns are based on the Disrespect that is shown to our country and its people. How many countries allow these types activities by foreigners? None! They know the value of respect and uphold it. We are human beings just like everyone else so why can we not put our foot down like others? As Nana G said, Jungle Gold is a strong example of how other nations are encouraged by the easy access to our valuables. If anything at all, they show how poor they are and how rich we really are. It is about time we see how nations overpower us and appreciate and respect what God has given us. If we continue to disrespect the love God has given us, others will disrespect us in turn. Simple.
