If we want national unity we must speak one language which is Twi. Unargurably, that is the only language already spoken by nearly the whole population of Ghana and beyond the national borders. How can we unite as a country if we still have many ignorable languages ? A law must be passed to make it a crime to speak the so called other languages except the most important one - Twi.

Oh Cousin, why are you equating textbook study with leadership and knowledge?
Too much schooling and textbooks have ruined your education.
Most of the parliamentarians you seek to educate have stacked up letters from alpha to omega behind their names so keep your laughable tutoring proposals to yourself. It won't make a dent in their attitudes.
And you even failed to list one, just one book by a Ghanaian author for patriotic reasons. Why didn't you recommend any of the books Nkrumah wrote?
All you care about is your daily parade of historical figures and list keeps getting larger by the day. Today you assaulted us with the following:
John Fitzgerald Kennedy; Lal Bahadur Shastri;Plato, Aristotle, Socrates, Confucius, Kant, Wittgenstein, Lakatos, Hume, Karl Marx, Diderot, Voltaire, J.J. Rousseau, John Locke, Popper, Abraham Lincoln, Winston Churchill, Dr Mahathir Mohamed of Malaysia, Lee Kuan Yew of Singapore, Nelson Mandela, Mahatma Mohandas Gandhi.
When are we going to catch a break from your list? When O when? haba.
And you wrote with such honest bravado:
"If invited, I will like to lecture them on these topics, since I have been teaching on those topics for decades now, and I think I am well versed in a lot of topics bordering on Political Science, Economics, Management, Ethics, Good Governance, among others"
I shudder the thought of sitting in on one of your classes. It'll be too scary to listen to your deviation into the territory of your Wanzam, whose knife you'll describe with in such macabre terms I'll have to faint.
And thereafter you'll begin your Latin incantations-"Cui multum datum; "Cui multum datum-Dr Mahathir Mohamed of Malaysia, Lee Kuan Yew of Singapore, Nelson Mandela, Mahatma Mohandas Gandhi, blah blah blah black sheep, have you any wool?.
Now if you want your MP's to learn something beneficial, ask them to come to Ghanaweb and read my trolling responses of wisdom.
Thanks for writing a short article. Keep it up.
Saluute, whaam bam, from forehead to waist.

That was my own uneasy feeling too. Perhaps, he never heard of Amilcar Cabral and his call for class suicide by the nascent African elite in the service of masses. Or what our own Nkrumah wrote a few years ago, which some claim are irrelevant to today's Ghana. And then we are supposed to go read books by people some of them 100s of years dead!
Kwesi, you've some points much of the comments you'd get to your piece will show you why Ghanaian leaders are pathetic and egoistic as they come!
Seriously, have you seen any sociological analysis of the origins of the so-called Ghanaian leadership before? I mean the likes of what you get in the West, esp. by French Marxist scholars on even their former colonies, based on variables such as birth (class), schools attended, etc. If you have, which I very much doubt, you'd begin to understand why they behave the way they do.

Hi Andy, thanks for your sociological input. We read all the histories of the Blaise Diagnes, Houphet Boigny, Leopold Sedar Senghors, Mobutus, and the communes and assimilation. Plus their sociological angles gleaned from novels by writers like Oyono, Dipoko, Ousmane Sembeye, a?ong others. Our black colonial elite leaders are all the same as they aped and surpassed their white predecessors as surrogates and even surpassed them in the abuse of power.

In Germany after Otto von Bismark in the 1880s, the Public Admin was based on Juristomonopol or the ruling class coming from only lawyers. In the UK, only Oxford and Cambridge trained classics, and law and humanities graduates or creme de la creme make it to the top to become PMs. We should set strict and high standards for our future leaders in Ghana by exposing those leaders to high moral principles and patriotic fervour.

Indeed, I have no doubt that you knew what I was referring to about the origins or sources of the leaders.
You are right about the dominance of the Oxbridge cum Etonian cartel in the UK buy I think in Germany, if I recollect my Comparative Administration lectures, in Germany, the root to the top was the elite military officers schools.
And you have to take into account the practice of the elite in planting their children in different fields of importance: one in the army, one the civil service, one the clergy, etc.!
What we have in Ghana is a nascent leadership, the evolution of a new crop of wannabe leaders to take over the reins of governance from the departing colonisers, with the chiefs who ruled with them being relegated to the background. So what we have is a motley group of people from different social backgrounds coalescing with the common purpose of becoming heir to the colonial state in order to advance their own aspirations, be it defined as personal or goodies for the masses. The qs is what are the social origins of those people? We can put them in 3 broad groups:
1. Scions of the freed or escaped tens of 1000s slaves of the Europeans and fellow Africans who found their ways into the missionary schools, the army and the police and the colonial administration. Indeed, they formed the core of the colonial administration from its very beginning, predating even colonisation itself as servants of the merchants.
2. Scions or junior members of the royal houses who received education. Even Nkrumah fell under this category, being a royal himself.
3. Scions of commoners who received education.
One has to examine the mentality each brought to the table to form the particularly pernicious primitive accumulation mentality of the new Ghanaian rulers.

I am glad you pointed out that most patriotic leaders you've mentioned have a little dictatorial tendencies. That was what Ghana needed during Nkrumah's time but unluckily for the country, the 'champions of democracy and rule of law' would not allow his dream for Ghana to see the light of day. It was only 2 years ago that Singapore had a truly democratic election after all the developmental issues have been handled dictatorially. Can us, Ghanaian shut up and let a benevolent dictator to rule us and put the measures needed in place?
Kwesi Atta Sakyi 11 years ago
Yes Monitor, it looks like the lot of the patriotic zealots is dictatorship. Perhaps, we need a benevolent dictator to rule us for two terms and set the tone for good leadership.
