This is a clear example of the NDC's populist and hypocritical policies, rather than a project based on feasibility studies and planning to provide 24-hour employment for young people, thereby reducing unnecessary imports. You will then agree that the ostensible purpose of re-establishing the post-independence Nkrumah Komenda sugar factory was the main objective. Otherwise, I just can't fathom how a country like Ghana could fail so spectacularly to establish a sustainable sugar processing factory in the modern world. I suspect that the much-touted 24-hour economy is just a slogan that will end up as one of many broken promises. In contrast, the Akromfi pineapple juice factory, which is part of the NPP's 1D1F initiative, is operating at full capacity 24 hours a day and is being expanded to include citrus juice production. If the NDC wants to learn, they need look no further.

One major factor in the poor project governance is the current practice of each governing party appointing its foot soldiers. As a result there are no permanent high level civil service personnel with corporate knowledge. Each time a new government replaces senior public service personnel with their own loyalist you lose the continuity needed for development projects

The Komenda Sugar Factory is not the ONLY White Elephant in Ghana's project managerial FAILURES. And neither are our recent political parties the only causes of the distasters. For even Dr Kwame Nkrumah was an initiator of this political mess. An exemple of this is the Erstwhile ABOSO GLASS FACTORY !!! So sad for Ghana, all this waste of BORROWED Finacial Ressources !!

According to John Henry Mensah, when he was adviser to Kwame Nkrumah on industrialization the latter ordered him to buy for Ghana two sugar refineries, which he did.
Upon return with the refineries he found out that contrary to his estimates there was not enough sugarcane to feed the refineries.
Kwame Nkrumah insulted hims and requested that he call the late Kojo Botsio.
When Kojo Botsio arrived he promised Kwame Nkrumah that he will take the smaller of the two refineries to Komenda and after six months start producing sugar and he did it.
The question to ask this writer is that the matter here is not about apportioning blame, but how to solve the question.
Today we have more economists and engineers than in 1962 and they are supposed to solve such issues as the Komenda Sugar Factory.
Since they are unable to do so, it means that their degrees is whealthless.

The revival of the Komenda Sugar Factory will be an economic bonanza for the
24- hour economy. I plead with the NDC government to do whatever it takes to operationalize the factory to help build the Ghana we all want.
