Diasporas are of many different nationalities. Can you be more specific? However, the colonizers game of divide and conqueror was successful in keeping Africa and Africans from uniting against the real enemy. Africa was looted and exploited because of division.
Ask yourself, why is it Europeans can travel throughout Europe without a passport, but a Ghanaian can't go to neighboring Cote d'ivoire Togo, or Nigeria, South Africa, Kenya, or one of the other 54 African nations without one?
Ask yourself historically and in present times what has the colonizers done for and to Africa? What is the imprint and legacy the colonizers have instilled in your mind?
Let us not remain divided. Let us together unite Africa as one.

I am one of the many thousands of hopeful Afro-diasporians seeking Ghana citizenship. Growing up in America I never felt at home, and white Americans made it a point to let me know I did not belong, was a second class citizen, and not welcomed. After relocating to Ghana, in November 2025 when it was announced a citizen ceremony was planned for December, I immediately signed up.
Timely communication is key. I received notice of the planned ceremony for March. Both times the short notice provided little to no time to gather the required information, in addition the requirements and the process were not clearly defined, leaving no time to inquire.
In the true breath and spirit of Pan-Africanism, my returning to the land of my ancestors in addition to learning of my ancestorial culture and traditions is to contribute to the building of Africa. However, I recognize everyone has their own reasons. I viewed the requirements and the fee for citizenship as a factor to weed out those
seeking to exploit Ghana, viewing citizenship as a fad (obtaining citizenship and return to their country of origin), and/or vacation land, from individuals bring value, desiring to contribute, and providing opportunity to Ghana and its' citizens.
Let us learn from history. The Berlin Conference of 1884–85, "the Scramble for Africa," no African voice was at the table. As of 2026, no African voice is represented on the United Nations Security Council. Let there be a diaspora voice at the table for citizenship and other related issues of the governance of the great nation of Republic of Ghana.
I am available to serve.

A Columbian or Venezuelan cannot just pa kk his bags and move to Belize or Chile.
On the European front, a Belarussian, Serbian or Russian cannot just pack his bags and move to Norway.
Now, Ecowas was formed in 1975 which gave a little bit of free movement for the 15 member States. By the late 70s, Ghana was having severe troubles from drought to economic issues while Nigeria was booming.
At a stroke of a pen, Shehu Shagari, revoked the Ecowas protocol and deported millions of West Africans with valid work permits and residence in his country.
Today, after running their own country down through corruption, we have millions of Nigerians tropping to Ghana on a daily basis. No natural disasters in that country. Yet, hardly a day passes without Ghana Police Service arresting tens of Nigerian criminals on our soil for fraud, prostitution, kidnapping, ritual murders, armed robbery etc. Do we need that in our peace loving country? No,No,No!
