*Are we Independent?*
It depends on what you call Independence
Nothing is different 'cause nobody thinks different
We live in lies and illusion
Because the truth is hard to swallow like you drink cement
I wonder if it's a plan thing or coincidence
*I.M.F.* call shots, push button
World bank pull strings like instruments
Hence, things so tense,
Broke is to pocket like zinc to fence
Some wonder if we would have been better off spending pound, shilling and pence
Corruption through pens and pencils
Most Youth don't have trade and the few that do can't afford utensils
Nor the fundamentals, nor the bare essentials
So they take the wrong road and flair off course and crash just like a rental
I wonder if it's a purpose or accident
They tax everything from dung to tung
Leaders tear the Nation down and mash it up like a crashed taxi
Let's fix the dents or face the consequence
Protest, social unrest been going on for centuries
*Do we even care what Independence is?*
We've sold out our coastline, landline, airline, phoneline, online, bloodline, lifeline, deadline, headline, frontline, timeline, lightline, trainline, clothes-line, punchline, lunchline
Our naural resources gone to foreign sources
Business so exclusive,
Isolate the tourists, all part of the inclusive
Don't give us no excuses, we can withstand the bruises
Tell us what the truth is
*What's the truth?*

Ghana was given independence on paper. In reality we are still a perfectly neocolonized state. In order to be free we need to defeat neocolonialism. We must fight it mentally. We are members of the Commonwealth, a group of countries still attached to the umbilical chord of their colonial masters.
We beat our chests about being the largest producer of gold in Africa, yet we get 10% royalties and a percentage of whatever the gold companies declare. If we need independence, we must own the mines like in the past State Gold Mining Corp.
Until lately that President John Mahama started wearing Fugu, it wasn't popular. I haven't seen the new generation wearing it, but will be seen in foreign designer clothing. The images portrayed on our TV is foreign. Every major news outlet has a channel on our TV spewing influential garbage to change our culture. So our TV stations are copying same with a few exceptions.
There is more to talk about, but Bob Marley composed a song, "Emancipate yourself from mental slavery..."
Let's do that.

Ghana has always been socio economically disadvantaged, and systems and structures has been designed to depend heavily on foreign aids, grants, loans and other forms of assistance.
At first, the narratives used to be like, " the independence of Ghana is meaningless until it's linked to the total liberation of the African continent", but now we talk more of the independence of Ghana is meaningless, unless we unless we administrate this country in full sovereignty and total dependence on our human resource and leverage on our human resources to effect positive changes on our natural resources to the benefit of the country.

Who are the real stakeholders of our state—the ones who read pieces like this and feel compelled to act?
Because some of us, with no direct stake or privilege tied to how this nation turns out, still find ourselves stirred, even restless, by reflections like this. At nearly seven decades after independence, the challenge has never just been freedom, but translating it into inclusive progress, strong institutions, and real opportunity for all .
So again, who truly carries the burden—and the urgency—of moving Ghana forward from here?
