Cape Coast was never the country's name, it was the capital of the Gold Coast until the capital eventually was relocated to Accra. History has nothing to do with naming of the airport after Kotoka; the issue is about the airport being named in honour of a coup-maker, and Ghana has had a long stance against coups.

The greatest downfall of this country has been the educated elite produced through our educational system since independence. We have always focused on minor issues rather than major/life-changing ones. We are spending precious time debating whether an airport name should be changed. Yet within that sector, there is a bigger matter that should engage us. We have airports in Kumasi, Tamale, Ho, and Takoradi that are not generating enough revenue to even keep the lights on. Yet nobody is coming out to explain how we can leverage these assets to generate higher incomes for the state, create jobs for the jobless, and raise the standard of living for the people. The question is: if the name Kotoka is removed, how much will that increase the state's GDP? However, if we would rather spend our time on such fruitless engagement when we could have spent the same amount of time discussing the possibilities of establishing an aviation business that can utilise the four mentioned airports to generate wealth, employment, and a high standard of living for the people. It is time for us to think because we seem to be so happy with our wretched state of affairs, such that we are unable to smell the coffee even if it is sitting in front of us. The cabinet meeting at which the matter was discussed was a waste of time and energy, as the time and energy could have been used to discuss servicing our aviation assets, which would increase GDP and improve the lives of our people. At the time, the youth are crying for jobs; changing names will not add jobs to the employment statistics, nor will it increase GDP. Can we please major on the majors instead of majoring on the minors?

Should we ban NDC because the party was formed by Coup makers? Isn’t surprising that a party formed by a coup maker is advancing this argument.
