No, it's not. Galamsey is a symbol of how the various Ghana government administrations' have failed the people of Ghana. Galamsey is a war on Ghana's present, operating in plain view, yet the for many years various governments have made loud noise about it without ever having a laid-out plan to tackle it. That inability to tackle galamsey can be traced to the fact that many of the major players in galamsey are either crooked politicians, friends of crooked politicians,. crooked government officials, crooked chiefs, and some foreign actors with deep pockets to buy the right Ghanaians in order to get their way. It's a crying shame that a menace unfolding in broad day light in many parts of the country and causing untold damage to land and waters, still has not been brought to a halt. If Ghana society's corruption is the major contributor to the galamsey menace, then the failure of the various Ghana governments to successfully tackle galamsey is also an indication of how corruption and a lack of will to act have allowed the menace of galamsey to foster. In the end, the blame for galamsey operating unchecked lies squarely at the feet of government, for it's government that not is has the obligation to stop the galamsey menace, but also it's the same government that has the resources necessary to combat galamsey. Any government that makes any excuse for the continued operations of galamsey must be engaging in hypocrisy.
