In the latter years of Ghana Airways' existence, their flights were always full, but majority of the passengers were Ghana Airways employees, their relatives and highly connected Government official. These essentially travelled for free! If for example, you are employed by United Airlines and you want to fly somewhere on one of your company's planes, you might be able to get a DISCOUNTED ticket (never a free ticket!) but your flight is NOT GUARANTEED. You can only fly on their plane if only there is a vacancy (empty seat) after the boarding process is completed. That's not what Ghana Airways did; non-fare-paying employees and their relatives board first and if there are any empty seats then paying ticket holders could fly also. So Ghana Airways took off with full flights and made no money! That's like running a 5-star restaurant but the employees and their families eat the best parts of the food free of charge and paying customers come and buy what is left! You will make no profit.
We are the same country, the same people, the same mentality and even a higher level of corruption and higher sense of entitlement. The result will be the same. Not every country deserves to have an airline; Ghana is one of them! We don't need Ghana Airways back!! We have been getting around without them!!! It is not about prestige; just the ability to run a business and declare profit, rather than using our country as a piggy-bank for an airline that should never have existed after 1970.

It is so possible. Form the airline and float shares in the Ghana Stock Exchange for every Ghanaian at home and in the diaspora to invest in. Ethiopia did that to finance the $5 billion hydro electric dam. I believe every Ghanaian would be very proud to invest in this venture. Put a strong Ghanaian management in place who is experienced in running the airline and who is accountable to the investors.
