Members are forced to pay for consultations, drugs and other benefits under the scheme.
Doctors are quick to prescribe drugs which are not in the drug list because they are just interested in their employer making money.
I am of the view that Health Insurance in Ghana is expensive, because of the abuse and fraud being perpetrated by health providers.
I have been agitating for sometime now that instead of Health Insurance we must have free medical care, with stringent rules that will prevent abuse and fraud.
Back again on Health Insurance, it is incumbent on the National Health Insurance Scheme to force all health providers on the Scheme to photocopy and paste the health benefits and drugs under the scheme for member to access and verify and compare if they have been surcharged or not.
The problem with our systems if that security is weak when it comes to issues like these.
That is the reason why some countries engage health workers in their security network to check on these corrupt acts.
People are afraid to cheat when they found out that the eyes of some of their colleagues are watching whatever corrupt acts they are involved.
The state must provide such security and let security be seen at where it is not and where it is.
