This article should be sent to Ghanaian politicians..from selling our natural resources cheaper to now selling our human intellectual resources to foreign countries..Ghanaian politicians are engaging in modern day slavery and they don’t even know..why must u train your doctors, nurses, teachers, engineers and be sending them to foreign countries..if the purpose of training your youths is to trade them for mirrors and cheap money, then it’s nothing more than modern day slavery..we need proper leadership in Ghana that will value our Human Resources and put them to proper use

One of he reasons why the British and US overthrew Ghana's First President Osagyefo Dr. Kwame Nkrumah were that he replace their professionals who were in management in Ghana with Ghanaians.
I was told some years ago by some of the comrades of Kwame Nkrumah that when the Akosombo Dam was under construction Nkrumah took a few Ghanaian engineers who were told to apply for employment as messengers to the Anglo Saxons.
After a years of operations the president informed the Anglo Saxons that their services were no longer needed.
When it was time for them to handover the their reliefs, they were surprised that were handing over to their messengers.
The matter of brain rejection and brain drain is a matter of the institutions that run the state. Mostly the civil service, that the technocrats there don't want competition from fellow Ghanaian technocrats, but will prefer even a white person with less qualification and skills to head institutions in which they are themselves heads.
Some of those who are not technocrats, but raised to the ranks to management positions in the service have the habit of undermining their colleagues who have higher education, especially when you are not from their tribe.
As a civil servant I negotiated and got three months wages out of every year of service for 10 years for a worker. I want the severance award of the worker to be documented. Thus I told my district officer about it. He in turn informed the regional officer. The two of them told me that the severance award was on the lower side, that they could get four to five months out of every year of service for the redundant worker.
The regional and the district officer together with myself went to the employer and to my out most surprise they said rather that they were there to inform the employer that redundancy settlement upon which we reached was on the higher side.
There are some Ghanaian employers who are themselves graduates and professional, but they will confide in you that they hate to work with their fellow Ghanaian professional and will prefer to employ or import an expatriate.
The matter is worse than we had it a few year of independence. You find yourself in a manufacturing company in Ghana and all the top level personnel are foreigners with less qualification and experience than their Ghanaian counterparts who are machine operators and factory hands.
Those foreign owned companies don't grant their Ghanaian workers the chance to acquire more theoretical knowledge and skills the job. Thus throughout their lives Ghanaians work as subordinates to Caucasians, Semitic and Mongoriod people.
So that discourage most of them to further their education.
