Over the years, we have been hearing government officials talk about abondant sun light in the country. Why are they not looking for a solution to this problem though renewable energy?

Our main problem in ghana is that corruption pays. and with the useless democracy we have, everything is now politics. If it is of your party and it is wrong dont say it fight it-that is the so called democracy we have. The day we have true acccountabily were people get really purnished for wrong doings irrespective of who is in power ,nothing will change. OUR CONSTITUTION REALLY NEEDS A SHAKE UP

The introduction of the levy for the sole purpose of purchasing fuel to mitigate dumsor could only be a short term solution and may not be sustainable. It only will encourage the business as usual option leading to more inefficiencies and loses. Rather, the levy should be used to focus on supporting the establishment of long term power generation plants that can produce affordable energy to support industrilization and value addition. Industrilising countries like China, Korea, India, Malaysia among others have shown the way to cheap power generation. Let's follow their examples and use the levy rather to invest in:
a) Ghana's found natural gas processing and distribution infrastructure to provide cheaper fuel for power plants.
b) Grid infrastructural enhancement to reduce transmission losses.
c) Establishing Nuclear Power and Clean Coal power Plants which offers affordable and reliable power for industries
The reliance on oil for power generation is only to support emergency power generation to avert dumsor but should not be the long term solution for power generation in Ghana as has been the case of Kalpower, Aksa and other IPPs.
