These types of accidents rest solely at the feet of our drivers. Ask yourself was the driver of the VIP bus the only driver who plied that road that fateful day, if not, how come he had an accident?

A lot of vehicles was on the road but the driver of this VIP bus being careless or whatever cause an accident meaning he was the problem and nobody else.
I remember the days when the Accra-Kumasi Road was like a mouse trail, hardly do we hear such deadly accident or head-on collision, but why now?

In the late 1990s, Kenya government introduced speed governors that limited commercial vehicles to a specific speed beyond which they could not go. It reduced the carnage drastically, but guess what, some years later, the measure had been cancelled, because of - it was assumed - pressure from vehicle owners. The real reasons were never known.
There is no reason why the government cannot force all commercial vehicles to install governors on them.

I still can't understand why the Government is to be blamed for everything. This is just common sense. How many of the drivers obey road regulations in Ghana?

Majority of the road users have had no driving lessons and have little or no knowledge of road usage, hence drive with impunity. We complain when roads are bad yet overspeed when roads are of good standard.

It's very pathetic and I think we need to start using common sense and quit blaming government for our own stupidity and begin taking responsibility for our senseless actions

This calls for the citizens of Ghana to hold all successive Governments after Kwame NKRUMAH accountable!

Great write up. It’s all dereliction of duties and responsibilities by the institutions concerned. Simple safety requirements like road markings are even absent on highways.

You talk about dualization of our highways and still wants speed ramps on these roads? Who does that in this era? What we need is a regional highway policy where there are exit and entry lanes, where the are buffer zones, where the roads doesn't pass Tru any village or town but exit to the surrounding towns using the exit lanes. Speed ramps is a lazy man approach of reducing speed. The Accra Kumasi road is not a high way. It has never been a highway . We need first class highway to connect these two cities not just dualization.
Anyway, kudus to the writer .
