Organization of American States (OAS) contributes to the United Nations (UN) through voluntary contributions to the CIO account. The CIO account funds assessments for the UN regular budget and other international organizations, including the OAS.
The OAS also has a Development Cooperation Fund (OAS/DCF) that receives voluntary contributions from member states and other assets. The OAS/DCF finances national and multilateral cooperation programs, projects, and activities.
The UN's regular budget is funded by assessments based on a member state's capacity to pay. The General Assembly determines the assessment scale every three years. The minimum assessment rate is 0.001% and the maximum is 22%. The U.S. is the largest contributor to the UN, paying 22% of the regular budget.
