Economic Challenges: Ghana's economy faced significant challenges during Mahama's presidency. There was a severe economic downturn, with rising inflation, high unemployment, and a depreciating currency. The power crisis, known locally as "dumsor" (frequent and prolonged power outages), frustrated businesses and households. This contributed to a perception that the government was mismanaging the economy.

Corruption Allegations: There were multiple high-profile corruption scandals during Mahama's tenure. Cases like the GYEEDA (Ghana Youth Employment and Entrepreneurial Development Agency) scandal and SADA (Savannah Accelerated Development Authority) project mismanagement dented public trust in his administration. These scandals played a key role in swaying public opinion against Mahama and the National Democratic Congress (NDC).
