While trying to be so clever and knowledgeable to quote "Asantehene and Paramount Chiefs" from the Constitution in your attempt to prove to us his position, didn't anything prick your conscience to question why you didn't find "Smithkromhene and Paramount Chiefs", for example, instead of what you found there? Did you ever hear of "primus inter pares"? If you didn't, well, it's your problem, not Asantehene's or Ashantis'.
I can imagine the 'research' you had to make before writing this article when you had to go all the way into the life of the 10th Asantehene in your attempt to make a point about the current one who is the 16th. That tells me that most probably you studied Asante History somewhere along the line (instead of Smithkrom History). I wonder if you know anything about the immediate past chief of Smithkrom, or even the name of the current chief of the village next to yours. If you choose to, you may decide to refer to the Asantehene as Okyeame, and it won't take any leaf out of that History Book you may have read before coming to write your story.

CHIEFTAINCY as a system is never democratic and cannot be practiced within a democracy. Ghana is not a constitutional democracy but a Parliamentary cum executive presidency. This in itself is very ambiguous. Let us first decide whether to keep CHIEFTAINCY as an institution and accord it its rightful place in our scheme of things or we abandon the system altogether.
Chiefs are royals and cannot be subservient to any commoner calling himself or herself as president whether elected or appointed.

From History books, the British archives of history and Lawyer Historian Dr Frimpong has said that the Ashantes fought very fiercely with the British in so many battles and in such that the British had so much fear for the Ashantes.
So in 1900 the British conquered the Asantes and burned the whole of Kumasi down in the 3rd Anglo Ashante War. ( The Yaa Asantewaa War ) The British then Took captive of the Asantehene which they referred as the Asante king Agyemang Premper.
infact history also says the Dormaa people too joined the Asante Confederation until in 1935 when they redrew from it because they wanted to create their own Bono state.
So the tittle King was used thru out in history when ever the British refer to the Asantehene as king of the Asantes.
And since Asante was the major nemesis of the British, they assembled all the tribes from the coastal front, Nigeria Togo and India to fight the Asantes also supported by the northeners, Anglos and Dahomeys.
So u see history also told us that the Asantes and their Allies were the only people who fought and resisted the colonizers and thru this it opened the gateway towards Independence in the future to come.
More so this resistance made the colonizers to revered the Asantes and their King. Infact it's said in some history books that fear and panic struck the white man's heart when he hears this ferocious name Asantes.
So my little submission is that wether after Independence the state pass laws and made all Kings in Ghana Paramount chiefs or not no body can stop the Asantehene or any king in any kindom in Africa from using the tittle king.
Since the laws of the Land refused to leave a lacuna by not protecting the word king and the people or the Queen, now the king whom the English language it's self belongs to them Never stopped them from using the tittle king.

Your interpretation is subjective because you try to explain the reason for the separate mentioning of the Asantehene's name due to an ambiguity created by the constitution. This is an unprofessional and bias was of raising an argument.
To be objective in your augment and fair in your interpretation of the constitution, you should instead take what the framers of the constitution had written and objectively acknowledged that, they were in the spirit of their though creating a separation between the Asantehene and the other paramount chiefs.
Either, they the two mentioned names are equal in rank but called differently by different groups or there is a clear distinction in their ranks that needs to acknowledged.

Dormaahene does not want to be part of asanteman council so he does not recognise the asantehene as a king. Berekumhene wants to remain part of asanteman council ,so he recogonuses asantehene as a king and swears the oath to him.. The ammendment you are talking about will never happen in Ghana. Except under a military govt or a dictator.
You see the asantehene has been treated special in all our history.go and take take the independent constitution and the first republican constituion. Even when nkrumah created the bono ahafo region he still allowed those in that region to continue to own allegiance to asntehentehene. That is why asantehene still creates paramouncies in that region. In ghana it is only the asantehene who can create paramount chieves apart from the govt. By the way there is no paramount chief in dagbon apart from yaa naa. Yaa naa has a lot of chiefs under him but none of them is a paramount chief.

Asantes say that Oumfuo is their King. and as a matter of fact when it comes to the status of Otumfuo as King, to the average Asante even the Constitution is irrelevant. The Kingdom of Asante predates the current Republic of Ghana by centuries and in fact, if Ghana is dissolved today, the Kingdom of Asante will remain. Asantes are not bothered if every tribe designates it's traditional rulers, from Odikros to Paramount Chiefs as kings. The article written by a so-called Smith is just a whistle in the wilderness.

According to the Merriam-Webster-dictionary. The problem is how or what title do you give one who is the chief of chiefs of other states or a nation (Asante). I think depending on how much colonial mentality you have or cultural ‘ envy’. He stated earlier the intention behind the word " Paramount" and how the British government had wished to suppress our leaders that time. One thing for sure, the Asante is a collection of tribes; tribes like Amansie, Adansi, Atwima, Asokore and other who have come together as group with a common leader.
He failed to accept the fact that the Asantes accord their leader a title "Otumfour", an alternative word which are mostly used for God the creator. Nothing in the world can change what the tribes in Ghana has done previous and the history that recognize each group. I believe the other tribes can create similar importance to themselves and such will be accorded.

The constitution recognises that there are some traditional superpowers in our land even before the birth Ghana in the 1950's. But for political interpretations of the constitution of Ghana, the overall powers and mandate lies in the hand of a democratically elected president. Now this is the question, how would Ghana have become like Britain which is ruled by a monarch? The very few kings in ghana rules and have dominion over the lands they rule supreme over, namely; the Asantehene, the Yaa Naa, the Anlo overlord and others who's authority is over many "Paramount chiefs". How do you expect such authorities to be termed as "Paramount chiefs"?
The only thing you can advocate here is a review and ammendment of the Chieftancy act, so that aside the political head of the country, of whom all authority in Ghana resides, certains great Kings can be acknowledged and duly recognised. We need to stop the attack on traditional rulers and their supremacy in context of our tradition and nation building at large.
