Rain storm causes havoc in central region.

The Anaafo and Thursday markets in the Cape Coast metropolis suffered the wrath of the nationwide rain storm when goods worth several thousands of Ghana cedis were washed away from the stalls into the nearby sea.
In the process, distraught traders who operate their commercial activities by way of loans had their hearts in their palms as they discovered the next day that previous night’s bucking rains had collapsed their livelihood.
The unfortunate scenery saw concerned state officials including NADMO and Ghana National Fire Service made a quick dash to ascertain the level of destruction.
Areas such as Komenda Edina Eguafo Abrem and Efutu Municipalities were all hit by the rains whiles Upper Denkyira West and Gomoa West districts were also badly affected with Gomoa West being the hardest hit District in the region.
At Apam several buildings close to the District Assembly and its environs were partially submerged leading to lost of personal belongings and livestock.
Reacting to the incident the Central Regional Coordinator of the National Disaster Management Organisation, “NADMO” Mr. Emmanuel Sandy Amartey Senior suggested that in future all NADMO coordinators should be involved in the holistic planning of basic infrastructure.
Mr. Amartey explained that the involvement of such officials will go some length to mitigate the harsh impact of future disasters.
According to him, “though there is an existing law which requires that permits should be obtained from the appropriate authorities before buildings are put up so that they are not situated anyhow, people continue to build on water ways with impunity”
“Do these people obtain permits from the rights sources before they position their structures or they pass through the back door to have them to go and build on water ways leading to avoidable floods anytime it rains heavily?” He quizzed.
