Four major market centers in the Sissala East Municipality have been disinfected as part of a nationwide exercise by government to fight the spread of the coronavirus.

The four markets however lacked water, which compelled the team to go far to access water for the exercise.

Mr Karim Nanyu the Municipal Chief Executive for Sissala East Municipality, expressed satisfaction with the exercise, but expressed his disappointment about the unavailability of water in the markets, describing the water challenge as unfortunate.

"We have just given approval for all the major markets to be given boreholes to serve the water needs of those places and they include Bugubelle, Nabugubelle, Welembelle, Tumu among others".

Mr Karim advised the inhabitants to stop touching trees and other walls on the market as the virus could settle on the surfaces of trees, branches, leaves and this could be avenues to spread the virus.

He appealed to the public to continue to wash their hands with soap as the coronavirus can settle on surfaces.

Mr Zakaria Ibrahim, Director of Zoomlion, explained that the chemicals used for the exercise were not harmful to human health, and that market activities could resume right after the disinfection exercise.
