Independent presidential candidate for the 2012 and 2016 presidential polls Jacob Osei Yeboah has justified government’s plan to review the Petroleum Management Act to allow for the use of the Heritage Fund to finance the Free Senior High School programme.

According to him, using the Heritage Fund in educating the future generation is a brilliant idea since every nation thrives on educated citizens.

Members of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) as well as groups like IMANI Africa, Search Results, Public Interest Accountability Committee (PIAC), Kumasi Institute of Technology and Environment (KITE), among others, have kicked against the move. On the other hand, pressure group Alliance for Accountable Governance (AFAG) has supported the move.

But Mr Yeboah, in an exclusive interview with Class91.3FM’s Paa Kwesi Parker-Wilson, accused the NDC of collapsing the economy leaving government with no choice than to use the Heritage Fund.

“If we really want to secure the future of younger generations, we must educate them because society is advancing to a knowledge-based society. A country without educated citizens cannot compete. Using the Heritage Fund to secure the future of the younger generation is the noblest thing to do that any government can ever think of,” he argued.
