Nigerian-Ghanaian stand-up comedian singer and actress, Jacinta Asi Ocansey, popularly known as Jacinta has admitted that being a female in a male dominated field is sometimes very stressful.

In an interview with Foster Romanus on eTV Ghana’s Late Nite Celebrity show, she revealed that people expect women to go the extra mile before they accept whatever they bring on board, which obviously is wrong.

She noted that on some occasions, women are granted the same opportunity as men only after they have given in to sexual advances.

“When you do something, people want you to do more because you are a female. Being a girl almost makes you invisible. Being a female sometimes is depressing. People want you to pay with your body unlike the male counterparts who get a lot of things”, she said.

“Being a woman in a male-dominated field, you have to go out of your way to show you are better”, Jacinta further added.

She was however postive that, no matter the obstacles put before women, they will always excel.

Jacinta has been described as “Ghana’s only comedienne” and “Queen of Ghanaian comedy”. At the 2016 Ghana Tertiary Awards, she won the Most Influential Student Comedian,Most Popular Student and Most Entertaining Student.
