Ghanaian highlife musician, Kofi Kinaata and rapper, Okyeame Kwame have been appointed the ambassadors for the International Coconut Festival in Accra.

The two influential musicians were brought on board to aid in the promotion of Ghana’s maiden International Coconut Festival.

According to the President of Africa Coconut Group, Davies Korboe, it was necessary to bring on Kofi Kinaata especially because of his influence on the youth in the Western Region where most of Ghana’s coconuts are produced whiles Okyeame Kwame was chosen based on his commitment to promoting made in Ghana produce.

Speaking after his appointment, Okyeame Kwame emphasized on the importance of cashing in on Ghana produce. He said, "We cannot use prayers and promises to catch the dollar, the economists know it is wrong. Until we create a value chain of things that will help create jobs and put money in the pockets of farmers, sellers, producers and exporters, we will not be able to move Ghana forward," he stated.

On his part, Kofi Kinaata assured that he will use the platform to immensely encourage the youth to engage in agriculture because it’s a growing cash-cow.

The CEO of GEPA, Akua Asabea Asare also expatiated on the numerous benefits which can be derived from Coconut.

She said, “This festival will be the first of its kind in Africa and it will attract a lot of visitors to Ghana. GEPA will use the platform to expound the importance of the export of coconut and we hope to get the attention of others to come on board."

The International Coconut Festival will commence from 24th to 26th September at the Accra International Conference Centre and will bring together exhibitors as well as major players in agriculture and industry for the launch of annual 'National Coconut Day' as well as a tour of the Western Region to access the potential of the coconut business.
