Your irresistible voice always draws my attention – Listener tells K. Bonnah

Host of Starr FM’s ‘Dropoff’ Kwadwo Bonnah has been highly praised by an ardent listener of the station for his irresistible voice on radio and living up to the standards after he replaced Jon Germain on the show.

Kwadwo Bonnah popularly known as K. Bonnah took over the late night musical show months ago after Jon Germain left the radio station.

However, the listener, Kwabena Frimpong Mensah who is a lawyer by profession commended K. Bonnah for his hard work by making the show enjoyable and not disappointing as many thought he would.

Narrating in a Facebook post how nervous he was when he heard someone was taking over the show from Jon Germain, the lawyer said he was a bit skeptical wondering if the new host will be able to deliver but surprisingly he delivered an excellent production and has since loved his show.

For many an avid radio listener there is no greater fear than hearing that your favourite radio programme host is being replaced.

This fear is even heightened when your seasoned radio host is being replaced by a virtual “unknown”.

The first questions that arise are will the new host be able to handle the heat, is this newbie going to improve the show at all or are you going to have to look for a new show to listen to, and when you finally come to terms with the fact that the change is really happening you begin to question If management could not have done more to keep your favourite radio host at post.

Listeners, like myself to Starr FM’s evening program Drop off went through this same situation a few weeks back. The show was at the perfect time for us who closed from work late and was the greatest way to carry us home through the never relenting Accra traffic. It had the perfect mix of music, dialogue and news to guide us safely home like the name depicted we were literally being dropped off.

What added to the thrill of the show was to be able to listen to a doyen on presenting in the person of Jon Germain each evening. Jon Germain is one who needs no introduction in the entertainment and his career as a seasoned presenter was never in doubt, with proven stints in radio, TV and a music career to boot, you were assured of a good show every time his unique voice said “hello and welcome to the Drop Off”. The show was his and he was the show and news of his departure hit hard.

The next question was who was going to be able to fill this void left by Jon, was the person up to the task and was the nature of the show going to change, the worst of them all was, was there a possibility the show was going to be scrapped? The days before his departure were the most anxious for me personally, did it mean I had to find a new show to take me home?

Cue in management with the announcement that the show would go on but now to be hosted by Kwadwo Bonnah, a young upstart who had had a successful stint at Class FM and had made the jump to the Star FM. I must admit I thought it was a very big ask of such a young presenter but hey! once my show was going to continue I welcomed him with open arms and an expectant face for him to show me what he was all about.

On the very first evening with my new driver, I was pleasantly amused with how he handled himself and the show, he acknowledged Jon for the great work he had put into the show and promised not to change it but infuse the old with the new, that was when I knew I was in for a whole new experience and boy was I in for a treat. His delivery is like that of someone who has been doing this for decades, his voice soothing, charm and charisma he has in abundance.

It has been smooth sailing from then, Kwadwo Bonnah has grown in to the role perfectly with his choice of music, and style, he knows perfectly when to come in and when to let the music play, another unique thing about him is his voice, the deep monotone draws your attention to whatever is being said without taking your mind away from the music that is being played.

I have also come to love his interactions with listeners to the show, every fan wants to feel appreciated and he does just that, on each and every show without fail. It’s been a 62days (yes I have been counting) since he took over the show and I will honestly admit he is doing a great job at it.

For a man whose moniker is making tattoo memories, he is truly living up to the name, the sky is just the beginning for this young man.
