Diana Hopeson scores Obour 80%

Mrs Diana Hopeson, a former president of the Musicians Union of Ghana (MUSIGA) has given an 80 per cent score to her successor Bice Osei Kufuor, popularly known as Obour.

She was reacting to claims by Obour that his administration has been the best ever witnessed by MUSIGA.

“I will rate him 80 per cent; the short of 20 per cent is because there were outstanding things that I couldn’t do during my time and I had laid the foundation that I was expecting by the next eight years, it could have been done,” the gospel musician told Nana Kwesi Asare on Class91.3FM’s The Big Show on Saturday, 23 March 2019.

She also encouraged young leaders to learn from their predecessors and perform better than they inherited.

“We always hope that the current years should build on what the older folks have done; to do better. So, it has been our desire to get the president who will go beyond where we have gone,” she added.

Mrs Hopeson charged Obour’s administration to ensure that musicians get better remuneration, as she feels the current leadership has under-performed in that aspect.

“The main one was the minimum wage issue because, as a union, we have this collective bargaining that gives the music union power so that we work to make sure that our employers take care of us as professionals. That has to be done by the labour office [and] that is why during my time, I quickly joined the Trades Union Congress (TUC) to make sure that everything was right, but up till now those things are still hanging”, she bemoaned.
