The reasons Nigerian music, movies and business dominate Africa are many.
1. Financial muscle.
2. Huge domestic market which grows the local acts and forces continental outlets like DStV to pay attention and serve them.
3. Predominant use of English: There are over 300 languages spoken in Nigeria. For an artiste to be a truly national act, he must use a language (English) most people understand. When he achieves that, it's quite easy to become a hit in places like Ghana, SA, Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda, Liberia, Sierra Leone, Zambia, Zimbabwe, Malawi, Namibia and the rest of Anglophone Africa. Francophone Africa then follows.
There are other reasons but I've got work to do.

What i mostly think about Nigeria's success in Entertainment in Africa and the world is the fact that they are good, dandy and multitalented, their population or huge domestic market as you call it is just a Bonus.
I can categorically say that because despite the enormous population of China which is about 7 times Nigeria and 4 times USA, still we do not get to hear about their Entertainment prospects globally, i bet you can't list 10 names of Chinese blockbuster movies or musicians without reaching for the web.
My crux of this content is that it has to do with the Talent a country has and not mainly about their populace.

@ Andrew and Michael ur comment are lucid. Naija simply took the bull by the horn with their consistency and hard work in the entertainment industry in Africa. Nigeria has so many things working for her which you Andrew listed above, like the huge market in Africa which others can also tap into. Kweku T, knows what he is saying. while Nigeria hits, always cross the shores of Naija and Africa the same cant not be said of Ghana and SA excepts some few.
