The result was a music art form that uses the local dialect with African beats and ryhthms incorporated in it. It has worked on the local African scene but not globally because it is not authentically African, neither is it western. Its simply not us. When it comes to music Africans have always led never followed. We are following and that's why we look pathetic, awkward, desperate and stupid. All the art forms originated from Africa; jazz, rock and roll, soul, blues and yes hip-hop. Why are we copying something that has its roots in Africa?
We Africans especially Ghanaians are always trying to ingratiate ourselves and imitate anything western yet we have our own rich culture which sadly we are abandoning. One day when the white man takes away the talking drum and all the other accessories that give us our unique identity because we hate ourselves we will run back crying to him claiming it was ours.
We want to be anything but African yet we are been dissed by the very people we try to imitate. At some point we have to get the message and stick to our roots. Trust me that is what will get us global attention, not copying someone elses music and expecting to collect awards. Nobody in the black diaspora knows of Reggie Rockstone and all these so called hip life self proclaimed super stars. They are only known in Ghana and thats where their fame ends. Get that!!!Inferiority will kill the African!

If our people are level headed and have a clear vision and how to accomplish great things, we might end up having people rather coming to us. If you don,t believe in what I am saying, what I would ask you to do is go work harder and be successful and come back and tell me how many people including bigshots you were able to win on your side. Mind you BET is business not 'abusuasem'. Color defines us to some degree but I feel culture defines people much better. What we have to do is develop our industries to be at par with the Americans and they will be encouraged to show up at our door steps, just as tourism works.
