There are two things that are very necessary but humans will not do if you have no means of enforcing them. They are obeying laws and paying taxes. Government must take the lead in dealing with the floods and everyone else will join in. That is what they are paid to do, it is their job to provide leadership.

In fact when you go to France, there are rivers that run straight through Paris and other areas. Believe me to tell you that you can absolutely not find any garbage, dirt or plastic bags in them. You can even fetch these waters directly and drink without any problem. The same in Kyoto, Japan and so many areas. But when you come to Ghana we behave as if we are working to punish government or city authorities. People throw anything anywhere, eat anywhere, drink any where, defecate anywhere and throw it anywhere thinking that they hiding to ease themselves, to punish someone, but......
Some of us also think we are in contention with government because it's their job so they should..... Should government try to ban sachet water and polythene bags right now, you will see some stupid idiots who will call themselves civil societies making themselves popular with that ban. In actual facts, we make our governments very lazy. We are humans not animals! And therefore we should behave and think as such! Gone were the era when military men and soldiers stand in the city centers with canes to beat and make people clean gutters in the Rawlings's time. Is that what we want? We should think well as human beings and and not as animals or some kind of donkeys to be beaten before we do what is right. We should also stop the contentions with government because of politics but should know that governments are there for us even though they might not be the best of people or those we like or those we want to be there. Imagine if government has failed and citizen not failed, the intensity of this destruction would have been reduced. on the other hand, if the government hasn't failed and we, the citizens, failed. We will receive this kind of natural punishment. This is a boomerang effect of our own activities.
Though, you can blame the leaders, but let me remind you that leadership is reflection of us; we didn't get them from outer space or mars. They were elected from us to serve. When we change, they will change. Even if they don't, our positive change will have a good impact on our lives. After all, I have never seen Mr Rawlings or Mr kuffour or Mr Mills or Mr Mahama littered the environment with rubbish after they have finished drinking their icewater or insu. Caseley Hayford said that people should resist all attempts to have their houses demolished and this shows how unrepentant we are as a people. How many of you have not thrown rubbish thrown rubbish on the streets this year(yoghurt, pure water, etc.)? How many times have not been educated about such bad practices? Government is responsible for our filthy attitudes and our stupidity. When she insulted the President, many were happy and were singing her praises to the high heavens and now the same people are angry because she said what? Now that Lydia Forson has been elevated like Ivor Greenstreet the most unprecedent ridiculous praises and defendance is so absurd that it seems they need psychiatrist evaluation.The late president Mills borrowed $500 million and President Mahama borrowed $660 million on the same drainage system which work begins and abandon according to the finance minister.We pay taxes to the government to employ workers to clean our cities and drainage,2.5% of our taxes goes to NHIS but when we goes to hospital for treatment we were denial service and also we paid road wealthy,toll and bridge toll and our roads has develop manhole and boleholes and we don't get the service we need so are we stupid to blame government who is taking our money to solve the problem or we should blame ourselve for contributing our resources to the government.Lydia Forson you have sold your consign to the devil.
