If you could afford it, that is fine and no one should criticize you about it. However, don't make it look like you did it for because of material things. Your reason of getting a body guard does not only make it materialistic but also being selfish and narcissistic.
Let me ask you if you do care about those who come to listen to your songs? I don't think so. If you did, you would have hired security guards for all your programs. Because if they took your watch away, then they probably took other peoples' bag, watches, etc.... do you see why your reasoning or excuse for hiring a bodyguard for yourself is stupid?
Of course, just because the Bible says he watches over us, does not mean we don't have to take care of us. This is the reason why we lock our doors. Or, we don't walk carelessly in an alley of full of robbers. That would be dumb, innit? But it is stupid to hire a body guard because of a watch and for yourself.

That to me was his wake up call. It doesn't necessarily mean he did it because of the stolen wrist watch. We all at a time or two have gone through similar situations in life where we did not see the need for doing certain things until a problem rears it's ugly head.
If you care to know, about 70 percent of safety rules in the world today, were implemented after death or serious injury has occurred and that implementation came as a result of the wake up call. In the USA, there's a current discussion going on about the white house fence additions and it's just because 3 people have jumped the fence in 2 years and gone to the premises. Meanwhile the fence has been there for years without any problem. No one ever thought a time will come when people will jump over it. But it's happened 3 times already and it's a wake up call so new measures has to be taken. Remember, it's wasn't just for the fun of it when your daddy said long time ago? There is properly no greater preacher and teacher in America than Charles Stanley. Yet, in all his services and conferences, you don't see 'guards' standing in front of him. Does he not preach the same gospel?
I am not against anyone who wants to protect himself or herself. But you must have a better reason to do that and not a wrist watch being taken away from you. Do you even think a body guard can stop that when these Gospel musicians see themselves as rock stars and therefore have to leave the stage and get into the audience to be touched? So tell me, can that bodyguard prevent that? And please, never make a mistake of using the Presidency of USA to compare what we are discussing about Sonnie?
Get this, getting body guards standing in front of the preacher while preaching was started by Benny Hinn when he was having his big crusades around the world. I don't believe he was the one that made that call but with so many advisers around, he may have been talked into that stupid idea. Then others like T.D Jakes and many charismatic preachers and their singers started doing the same. In Ghana, Duncan Williams started it and now the idiotic Obinim all have body guards.
Fame and popularity is getting into his head and he needs to humble himself. When he was 'nobody' GOD lifted him up. Let him know that he is not there, YET. Gospel music is neither a ROCK nor RAP but rather drawing men closer to God. So God does not need a STAR but a SERVANT.

I'm not happy with the trend of affairs in the church these days. So many things are to the extreme but it doesn't mean everything in there is wrong. You go into the bible and you'll find Moses, Elijah, Elisha, David and co had men around them that served in various capacity including protecting the men of God. You remember the 12 disciples right? They did not only help Jesus spread the gospel in a form of preaching, they also protected him several times from the multitude. I also want you to remember that the world you and I grew in, is not the world we have today. 3 year olds are using computers, tablets, you name them and tell me which one did you use in your time? Lol. Anyway, let's limit this one to Sonnie Badu's issue and spare him of the wrist watch. May be like I said yesterday, it was a wake up call and it happens to us all.
