OPINION: Actual reasons why music groups, Wutah, others break up

Issues concerning the reasons of breaking up of music groups can never be really exhausted because of a lot of factors.

In Ghana, the normal cliché we hear is: 'We are embarking on a solo project' and when pushed further by the media, they go like; 'We just moved on'.

Flex Newspaper has gone behind the curtains to really bring to bear the real reasons for music groups- break ups in Ghana and I hope this gives you an idea of what to do or think especially if you want to form a music group or to guide those already in one.

The first case study on my radar is TH4Kwages.

This Hiplife/Reggae group came from the Western region of Ghana and brought out hits like 'Manya, 'Taxi Driver', 'I'm Aware', etc.

This group originally started with four members, trimmed down to the final three; Scooby Selah, Atsu Koliko and Olasty Bingo.

The breakdown of this group was caused by the death of Olasty Bingo who was 'only' the hype man of the group.

His demise created a gap and who to play the running around and the 'fool' for the TH4Kwages group was no more so since two captains could not head one ship, the fell out struck.

Second to hit was the group Wutah.

This group until their break up really made impact in Ghana's music industry after the group was born out of a music reality show called 'Nescafe Africa Revelation'.

Wutah was made up of PV and Kobby. They brought to Ghanaians hits like 'Kotosa', 'Goosy Gander' and their classic, 'Big dreams'.

They started telling Ghanaians they wanted to embark on a solo project for a year with their manager, KOD confirming that assumption. After years, here we are with the group still in tatters.

The secret about the breakup of this group is that, PV who had the singing prowess was not disciplined which means that when it was time for rehearsals, he was nowhere to be found.

He is always late for radio and TV interviews. PV even usually forgot about studio sessions.

Kobby, the man with the rapping and the raga style was the direct opposite of PV. Kobby is time conscious.

He pays attention to their studio and rehearsal session and is always on time for radio and TV interview.

So, the one question every normal human being will ask is; “for how long can I continue to baby sit a grown up?"

This is the main reason we no longer have the group Wutah.

Watch out for the next edition of Flex Newspaper as we continue to unravel the secrets behind group break ups.
