It's called bloating. It happens to every body that starts to decompose in the water.

Basically what happens is the body starts to rot after about 2-3 days, which causes gases to form inside the body...then it floats for a day or two, until the gases escape, then it sinks again.

That's why they call drowning victims "floaters".

A Floater is really gross looking. The stomach area is all bloated out like a beer belly. And every part of their body is swollen and wrinkled like your hands after a long bath.

Anyway, back to your question...when you first drown, you sink for a few days, that's why they "drag" for bodies. Then you bloat, and they just look for you floating...then a couple days later, if you weren't found, they drag again, because the gas escapes and you sink for good!

I agree with Alzo. My opinion is that certainly some float and if they do they are washed ashore like anything else. But some obviously sink and don't go anywhere. A large overweight person with lots of body fat will float quite well unless anchored to something such as cement shoes. But the football player or track star with very low 2-3% body fat will sink

Ghanaians and the diehard fans of the fast rising artiste, Castro has been thrown into mourning since 5th of July when it was announced that De Destroyer crooner drowned while on a Jet Ski at the Ada Estuary resort.
