It is a simple practice in academia and even in the Bible whenever, the New Testament writers quote David or Moses they make appropriate reference to the source.

I am afraid to say so many of our gospel musician have taken songs that belongs to other people, and have not recognized those who wrote the song, not to talk about paying royalties. Also by giving credit to the source the consumers will not be confused.

Both Sonnie Badu and Will and Mike claim they wrote "Covenant Keeping God" one of them claim it was given to them by God. Now who is telling the truth?

We need some originality in Ghanaian gospel; how can self proclaimed top leading gospel act in the nation fill their CD with existing songs from Nigeria, South Africa and Ghana. No Tribe, Sonnie Badu et al tell us why. This not encourging creativity I guess your point about worldliness and stanism will not apply in this case. May be this could have been done behind close doors but who knows if Joyful Way didnt explore this option.

God wants us to be law abiding citizens and respect authority. Therefore, in every situation, Christians need to obey the laws of the land. And one of the laws in the land is copyright rights law. Meaning, if I use something that you created or invent, I have to acknowledge you and shouldn't make it as my own. It is simple.

Also, to minister in songs should not be seen as making money or becoming popular in the sight of people. You should wait on the Lord or seek his face and let him minister to you so that, it becomes a SONG to bless the body of Christ. Have you seen that Psalms continue to ministers into your heart after all these years. It is because David was constantly seeking the face of the Lord and He was ministering to him. Currently, because of technology, everyone gets up and pick up some notes and tunes from somewhere and put their voices on it. Have you realized how the old songs like "how great thou art" keeps on bring your knees to ground and tears flowing down your face? That is how it should be. God does not encourage laziness and wants the musicians to come to him to be ministered.

And you, this is the reason why most people don't like Christians because of such thinking as yours. We need to be wiser than that and simultaneously be law abiding citizens. The only time we can say NO to laws is when infringes on our belief or hinders us from serving God.

Have you heard about NETIQUETTE?- It is the rule of etiquette for communicating on the internet. You are not supposed to use block (Capital) letters throughout. It is known as screaming, yelling or shouting on others. you can use it for words or a sentence to make your point but not as a write-up. These are some of the thing, you God's children have to learn.

God is perfect and wise and want his people to be wise and strife for excellence.

For instance gospel song such as "DANE ASE" has got no copy right owner as such, it has sang by many artist without anyone claiming to be an intellectual owner of it.

Also "SUNSUM"which was popularized by ABAWA CONNI has also been sang by so many musicians such as ERNEST OPOKU and so many gospel artist but ABAWA CONNI can't sue for it because she wasn't the owner of the song.

Most of gospel hits are song composed by Pentecostal Church of Ghana and Apostolic Church members who got those songs through prayers.Most a time the original composers are even not known so every gospel artist pick and give it rendition.

Joyce might have though the said song was one of those songs which was why he picked and sang his rendition.

Can anyone point out songs which ERNEST OPOKU has composed ? All the hit songs he sings are Pentecostal hits which the composers are not even known.

Joyce could have researched if the said song was one of such gospel hits without copy right owner or has copy right owner.Moreover i wonder why her management didn't promote her nice track such as 'MUNKO MAKYI" but preferred to promote "Nyame Egwamaa".

You can't compare Nyame Eguwama to Munko maky which is Joyce original art work.Joyce is talented and has a great voice but she fucked up without researching about this useless song.

That only track which i felt was below the standard of the remaining songs on the promotional cd.So i am upset when i heard the same song is putting her in trouble.Anyway sorry if my closing remarks are not godly but i must add i am not a Christian.

Our praise and worship leader have failed us. They are always looking for a response whenever they sing. So they will pick songs that scores with the congregation, and sad to say our gospel artist are doing the same. So even when new CD are released they tend to be the same old songs repackaged; and in some cases all the tracks on the album will be very old in content. I understand if you pick one or two of the old songs to enforce the messages of your new songs.

Our praise and worship leaders need to understand it is time we sing both old and new songs in he church. Can you imagine your Pastor preaching the same sermon for 20 years with minor tweaks? Be rest assured the congregation wants to learn new song. They don't have much of a choice because we are not giving them one.

When you carefully study the songs of the Bible, the most common song in the old testament is "for he is good and his mercies endures forever" this song is not recorded everywhere in the Bible so in the new testament the common song is "Holy, Holy Holy is the Lord God Almighty who was and is and is to come" they also sang the song of the Lamb and the song of Moses. This goes to show both old and new songs are relevant and we should encourage our musician to write more scripturally inspired songs.

Man the case before us is infringement on intellectual property. All Joyce had to do was to play by laws regarding using someone else product and she will be fine.

I don't know who Joyce before this news broke but it appears she sings other people's songs and I doubt she has sought the proper copy rights. Check her videos on youtube

Anyone who has studied at the university level will agree anytime you use someone's work you reference it. Even in the Bible anytime the new testament cited the old testament the original authors were acknowledged.

This is logic. We have to learn from this mistake please don't condone the wrong.

I'd like to believe No Tribe and Sonnie had sought the proper copy rights. If they didn't they are equally liable.

It is only lawful that when you use someone's work,you have to give them credit.This is the standard of practice every where in the world,unfortunately Joyce is the escape goat, who know,may be more law suit will follow.

Mary Ghansah is the best worship song writer in our nations history.Take songs for example,other have sang them on their albums and besides not giving her credit,they have the nerve to change some of the words of her songs and call it theirs. So that when you take the original song, its nothing compared to what Sister Mary sang on tape.

Where in the world have you seen the words of amazing grace and any hymn for that matter change and people calling it their song. Yet this are public domain songs and every can use them for free if they seek the proper copy rights. No one dare do this in the western world yet in Ghana we brake the laws and tell the victim to shut up. man take your ignorant word back.

Lets learn from this,let encourage our musicians to write and sing their songs.

These guys must move quickly to remedy the situation before someone drag them to court.

Ghana have new artist all over the world who are singing original materials let look for them and support them.

Ghanaians should take a cue from this lesson. Recently i heard about a show called "The Game" and there was a show now cancelled which had a title like Tyler Perry's movie "the diary of a mad black woman" All these constitute copy rights infringement. Pls lets take a cue and learn from this bcos similar lawsuits could occur like this one.
